The second episode of Lucasfilm's latest live-action Star Wars series, The Acolyte, reveals some interesting new details about the dangerous mission Mae was given by the mysterious Dark-side warrior glimpsed in the closing moments of the series premiere.

If you haven't watched yet, here's your spoiler warning.

Shortly after Mae dispatches Master Indara in the first episode, we learn that several other Jedi are on her kill list, and it later comes to light that she has very specific instructions when it comes to her method of assassination.

In episode 2, Qimir reminds Mae that her Master has ordered her to kill at least one of the Jedi without the use of a weapon. It was generally assumed that this was simply down to passing a test of skill, but there's a lot more to it.

"We do go into it in future episodes, but I don't mind talking to you about it in a general way," showrunner Leslye Headland tells GQ. "Essentially, in this time period, we wanted to be clear that Jedi would not attack unarmed people. That would just go against what their code was, at this particular time. They're not fighting battle droids. They're not fighting people with other lightsabers. It just feels like the Jedi would not resort to harming a person. Even if they were attacking them, they would just be like I am the stronger person in this fight, as we were saying about Master Sol in episode two."

"So I think that what Mae is doing and what killing without a lightsaber is alluding to is that it's a psychological fight," she continues. "It's trying to bait the Jedi into breaking their code. And if you can do that, then that's a stronger win. So Mae always tries that first, but because she's so undisciplined, she always takes out the knives because she's like, I want to kill these mother[frick]ers. So in the first two episodes, she's able to kill two Jedi with a weapon. But she's got two more Jedi [to kill]. So her aim is to kill one without a weapon. But she wants all of them to die."

Does Mae succeed in her lethal mission? You'll have to wait until episode 4 to find out!

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Leslye Headland created the series, based on Star Wars by George Lucas, and serves as an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers. Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow are the producers.

Headland also directed the premiere episodes (Eps. 101 & 102). Directors Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108) round out the directing duties on the series.

"I really wanted to tell a story about the Sith," showrunner Headland told EW in a recent interview. "That was kind of my dream Star Wars idea. But it felt like the time period to do that in would be something pre-Phantom Menace. That seemed to be the most interesting trajectory for the Sith: How did the Sith go from the Rule of Two and being quote-unquote 'extinct' to Palpatine coming into power without the Jedi knowing about it?"

Award-winning composer Michael Abels, known for his work on Get Out and Us, scored The Acolyte.

Because Lesbian Showrunners who've never seen Star Wars make the best content ever?

@marvel72 - They hate the audience and openly mock them - that is the strangest business model I have ever [frick]ing seen. How long could they actually think that is viable?

The Gen Zers crying on TikTok now after filing taxes are REALLY in for a rude awakening and I love seeing it.

@OriginalGusto1 - I know man I sort of gave them a free pass with The Force Awakens because the originals were returning but as the movie progressed they got worse.

And you can see that with the box office takings of each movie in The Rey Trilogy.

Star Wars:Rogue One
The Mandalorion Season 1 and 2
Andor

Are the only things they've got right.

@marvel72 - I've liked Force Awakens, Rogue One, Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2, Andor, Ahsoka, Clone Wars S7, Rebels, The Bad Batch, Tales series, Visions. I'd say their still doing better work on television.

Star Wars is a franchise I've always really liked but it has always been very hit and miss, even under Lucas.

Interesting , I like the explanation and hope that is also stated in future episodes or atleast explained more as Headland states that it will be…

It’s interesting to finally see Jedi in the roles they were originally intended to be which were peacekeepers and not necessarily warriors and definitely not soldiers at the mercy of The Republic (though you can definitely see some of the cracks building I feel).

Also I didn’t necessarily see Mae as undisciplined but moreso just angry (which I guess could could factor into that aswell) in that she has such hatred & anger for these Jedi that it gets the better of her and leads her to using her knives & such to get the job done

Anyway , I can’t wait to find out more especially as someone who liked the first 2 episodes!!.

@TheVisionary25 - yeah, I think it's a good explanation. I rather get it within the show though, rather than the writer telling it me directly

His first and only feature he has done has good reviews on RT , might check it out (otherwise he’s done a short and a few episodes of an Australian tv show).

...so it's proving a point? What point? That they won't take the obvious course of action to save their lives?

Mae is a force user. The force has been shown to be as effective of a weapon as anything along the lines of a blaster, if not more depending on the force user.

On top of that, Mae is willing to kill innocent people. And can do so by just force snapping their necks.

This really isn't the moral conundrum they think it is. Especially since it's based on sh!t in the jedi code they made up to pretend there's a moral dilemma here.

@Origame - I really liked how Indara told Mar that Jedi don't attack the unarmed, and how Mae said Jedi don't pull their lightsabres unless they are prepared to kill. And then in episode 2 a Jedi walks right up to an unarmed Osha and sticks his lightsabre in her face even though she's not being the least bit hostile.

Origame - 6/6/2024, 9:48 PM
@CorndogBurglar - yeah, it's just a general misunderstanding of jedi. Ultimately they're peacekeepers. They don't pull out their lightsabers unless provoked (and an assassin is provoking them regardless of a weapon).

What they're referring to in the code is that a jedi won't KILL an unarmed opponent. But even then the jedi training focuses on disarming and disabling opponents as opposed to killing them. All a jedi would have to do is remove her hands and legs and boom. Threat neutralized with no breaking of the code.

Leslie lied about being a fan. This is amateurish.

@CorndogBurglar - How about when he takes it out to light their way in the first episode LOL.

@RealTurner - Haha, right. Which is fine, that makes sense. You do that in the Jedi Fallen Order video games too. But it makes that line about only pulling your lightsabre if you're ready to kill someone comical.

He also pulls his lightsabre on that guy that's working with Mae when they are questioning him. Just pulls it out and sticks it in his face as soon as they enter the room lol.

I wonder if Indara being at that bar will be a bigger thing or not , like was she there for a reason?.

She seems to just be having a drink amongst the people which is nice to see from a Jedi but it did feel odd since we aren’t necessarily used to seeing them in that role…

If someone’s more familiar with the High Republic era , please let me know how the Jedi were during this period?.

@AnthonyVonGeek - I was thinking that as well….that she’s the master or isn’t dead yet, something like that. Her and Master Sol are big contenders for some kind of deeper twist. I’ve also thought Sol might have a twin, that theory is out there.

I wonder if Disney will ever consider remaking episodes 4,5 and 6.
You know recasting Han, Luke and Leia and changing things for the non existing modern audience.
I wouldn't be surprised at all.
