Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, while he's also set to return as Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney+. However, it was Matt Lanter who voiced the Jedi Knight in The Clone Wars animated series.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Lanter confirmed that he's set to return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away as Anakin.
"There's some new Lucasfilm Animation going on," he teased. "I've been a part of some things I can't talk about yet. You'll see Anakin again. I never quite put Anakin down, whether I'm doing a video game or something new for Lucasfilm Animation."
So, a return to the Star Wars Universe is definitely on the cards for Lanter, and some flashbacks in The Bad Batch seem likely (we've not fully explored what that team's place was in the Clone Wars).
In the same interview, Lanter also reflected on getting to end The Clone Wars on Disney+ last year.
"[The series finale] didn't come as much of a shock as that first time because that first time we felt like we didn't get to finish," the actor says. "Now, we properly got to finish. We got to send off the show in an emotional way in the way that Dave wanted to send it off. I actually think it was really cool that it premiered when everyone's spirits were down [because of the pandemic]. For Star Wars fans, it was exciting to have something new. I think it lifted everyone up a bit."
Lanter did a great job as Anakin, and for many fans, his take on the character is the definitive one. He made a brief cameo in The Mandalorian's first season as a New Republic Soldier, and most recently lent his voice to Skywalker in Disney+'s The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special.
Where do you think we'll see Lanter's Anakin Skywalker return?
