Star Wars fans hoping to learn more about Jon Favreau's upcoming series,
The Mandalorian, will want to be on the lookout next month as more details about the series will presumably be coming out of
Star Wars Celebration Chicago.
Lucasfilm has confirmed that executive producer and writer Jon Favreau will appear alongside fellow executive producer and director Dave Filoni, in a "special panel discussion" for the upcoming world. The announcement steered clear of specifics, teasing only that we'll
"learn about the perilous world of The Mandalorian."
Whether or not that means we'll get our first look at series in the form of a trailer, behind-the-scenes video, concept art, or just general details from the two producers remains to be seen.
In any case, the panel will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 11:00 a.m. live on the Celebration stage. Hopefully, it will be live-streamed for the masses to enjoy at home.
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal in the title role as the lone Mandalorian gunfighter. He's surrounded by an impressive cast that includes Gina Carano (
Deadpool), Carl Weathers (
Predator), Giancarlo Esposito (
Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (
Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (
American Gods), Werner Herzog (
Grizzly Man), and Nick Nolte (
Warrior). It was also reported this past week that
Thor: Ragnarok director
Taika Waititi may be lending his voice for the droid bounty hunter IG-88.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Episodes of
The Mandalorian will be directed by Dave Filoni (
Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Taika Waititi (
Thor: Ragnarok), Deborah Chow (
Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (
Dope) and Bryce Dallas Howard (
Solemates).
The Mandalorian does not yet have a premiere date, but the series will be exclusive to Disney+, the company's streaming service which is set to launch in late 2019.
