THE MANDALORIAN: Katee Sackhoff Says The Cast Was Told That Plo Koon Was The Surprise Season 2 Cameo

To the delight of Star Wars fans the world over, Luke Skywalker made a cameo appearance in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, cutting down a legion of Darktroopers in order to save Din Djarin and take Grogu under his wing.

Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and co. went to great lengths to keep the legendary Jedi's involvement under wraps, and that level of secrecy evidently extended to the show's cast.

While taking part in a charity live-scream with Star Wars Explained, Bo Katan-Kryze actress Katee Sackhoff revealed that she and the rest of the cast were told that Plo Koon was the Jedi that'd be showing up to get them out of a fix in the last episode.

Skip to around the 13.25 mark in the player below.

Plo Koon was killed along with most of the Jedi Council members after Order 66 was initiated in Revenge of the Sith, but he played a key role in The Clone Wars animated series, and if Lucasfilm did decide to bring him back someday, we can't imagine there'd be too many complaints.

Sackhoff was also asked if she's on board for The Mandalorian season 3, but wasn't able to confirm Bo Katan's return (she'll totally be back).

So why was Mark Hamil on set anyway?

Its clearly not really him on screen and youd think anything else he could have done could have been done in a studio

@dracula

It was probably more of a courtesy to have him on set

Maybe in a next season ..

He may be an old Jedi who has crossed the line. Plo Koon massacres the empire for revenge. His Jedi friends were killed and now he murders without mercy.

@Repian - That would be cool and all, but Plo Koon is dead.

@Waddles - Does death mean anything in Star Wars?

@Repian - Would rather see the bad mother[frick]er, Mace Windu

I would have gotten just as hyped if [frick]ing Plo Koon had showed up at the end.

I'd have an easier time believing Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc Pit than Plo Koon surviving this:

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - They don't show it but his ship actually falls right into a Sarlacc Pit after this.

@CorndogBurglar - And if you look very closely, you'll see Plo leaping from the ship just before it explodes:

Yeah, the guy who was blown up during Order 66. I'm pretty sure every Star Wars fanboy / fangirl on the set knew it was a deception right away which makes the whole thing even more suspect.

I wonder how they tried to conceal R2 from the cast though. Didn't seem like CGI but more like an actual prop on the set.

I'd really start asking then. I get it Plo Koon is pretty damn cool, but it would've obvious right the Luke was the Jedi that just had to show up right?
