Titled "The Jedi," today's episode of The Mandalorian appropriately kicked off with Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano taking out an army belonging to a villainous Magistrate ruling over Calodan. It's an incredible, action-packed sequence which does a jaw-dropping job of bringing this fan-favourite, iconic character from the world of animation to live-action. Din Djarin, meanwhile, arrives on the planet in search of the Jedi that Bo-Katan Kryze pointed him in the direction of, but ends up being offered a job instead.

That Magistrate wants him to kill Ahsoka, and will pay him with an ancient spear made of Beskar in return. The Mandalorian uses this information to his advantage and manages to track the Jedi down, and after a brief fight, he makes it clear that he's there for her help, not to hurt her.

Due to their connection through the Force, Ahsoka is able to communicate with The Child, learning that he used to live on Coruscant and was trained by "many masters" in the Jedi Temple. That confirms he's not a clone of Yoda (Ahsoka mentions that she's only seen one other creature like him, so sorry about that Yaddle fans), and he even had a name: Grogu. It took thirteen chapters, but there you have it. Conveniently, The Child can only remember that someone rescued him from there and hid him away, but it's all a bit of a blur after that; clearly, this is a story for another day.

Unfortunately, Ahsoka doesn't believe she can train Grogu because there's a lot of fear in him, and she knows what that leads to. Remember, she's all too aware at this point that Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. It's clear there's also a strong bond between Din and The Child, but he manages to get the Jedi to agree to taking the baby in return for defeating the Magistrate and her army. After more awesome action, they're victorious, of course, and it's at this point we learn the villain's "master" is Grand Admiral Thrawn. Ahsoka is on the hunt for him still, and it sounds a lot like he's resurfaced after disappearing alongside Ezra Bridger all those years ago.

As Din prepares to hand over Grogu to his new Jedi ally, she explains that she can't take The Child on as her apprentice; there's just too much anger in him after he's been forced to spend years hiding his abilities. However, the bounty hunter can take him to the planet Tython where there's a Jedi Temple. If he places Grogu on a seeing stone at the top of the mountain, "there's a chance a Jedi might come searching for him." Ahsoka notes that there's not many left, though, so who knows will come to find him, especially as this sounds a lot like it's just a call to anyone who has ties to the Force. With that, they go their separate ways, and there's clearly still big things to come for them both...

What did you think of "The Jedi"?

Mace Windu rescued Gorgu

Ezra will answer the call, but Yoda will appear at some point

@Chewtoy - Ghost Yoda is still Yoda lol, I figure it’ll be similar to how he appeared in the ST (if he shows up of course)

Filoni is determined to have 'his' characters be the new face of Star Wars. Undermines the original trilogy if you ask me. Return of the Jedi? they never went away. When Yoda says to Obi wan in Empire, no their is another, what he really meant was actully , there is a bunch of options

@GeekLegionofDoom - Yeah, it was never Lucas'intention to have only those Jedi you see, but to have a small, scattered, number of them. So scattered that they couldn't help. Also Anakin's fate was linked to his son and daughter so, because of the Force, any other Jedi would be little to no useful in beating him.

@GeekLegionofDoom - The canon is broken now. It was bound to happen, with so much cross-pollination of ideas.

Star Wars is finally back I have zero complaints. George has to be proud of what his Padawan Dave has been able to do.

@Imfunnyhow - Always two, there are. No more. No less. A master and an apprentice.

Yo I cried at the end of this episode. This was perfection.

Rosario Dawson killed it. She gave me serious wandering ronin vibes, and her fight against the Magistrate was pure Samurai movie shit.

Also I love Baby Yoda's name.

This episode might as well be the pilot for a live action Ahsoka / Sabine series...The Thrawn reveal 100% leans things that way...

Thrawn wasn’t even the biggest shock though...As Ahsoka was explaining to Din about Grogu deciding if he wanted to reach out through the force, and another Jedi picking up that signal................They friggen played Luke’s theme! That hands down gets the nod for biggest tease this episode...Speaking of which, if Grogu does broadcast himself out there, I’m sure it won’t be strictly Jedi that are listening...
