THE MANDALORIAN Season 3 And LOKI Season 2 Were Among The Most Watched Streaming Originals In 2023

Streaming titles continued to dominate television in 2023 and while The Mandalorian season 3 and Loki season 2 topped the list, you might be shocked to see where exactly Secret Invasion and Ahsoka placed.

The streaming wars have resulted in an incredibly crowded marketplace with content spread out across a seemingly endless list of pricey platforms.

It's hard to say how anyone can be expected to subscribe to all of them, but at least Marvel and Star Wars content can all be found in one place...for the most part. As you can see below, the popularity of those brands has given Disney+ the top two spots on a list revealing the most-watched streaming originals of 2023.

The Mandalorian comes in at #1, with Loki season 2 right behind it in second place. Surprisingly, Secret Invasion also found its way into the Top 10 at #7 despite receiving largely negative reviews, while Ahsoka being in ninth place suggests mostly die-hard fans were interested in continuing Star Wars Rebels' story.

Despite some fans taking issue with the spotlight shifting to Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian season 3, this just goes to show that the show remains a huge draw, a slight problem for Disney+ when it's unlikely to return for its fourth season until 2025. We do have The Acolytle and Skeleton Crew on the horizon but would imagine they'll perform similarly to Ahsoka

Following last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, streamers are expected to be a little more transparent with viewership figures. In the meantime, companies like Whip Media will no doubt continue using their analytical data to come up with lists like these.

Here are the top 10 shows of 2023 (via SFFGazette.com).

1. The Mandalorian (Disney+)
2. Loki (Disney+)
3. Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)
4. You (Netflix)
5. Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)
6. Black Mirror (Netflix)
7. Secret Invasion (Disney+)
8. The Bear (Hulu)
9. Ahsoka (Disney+)
10. The Witcher (Netflix)

The rest of the list features a wide array of titles, though it's telling that there's not a single Max series to be found. With DC titles like The Penguin and Creature Commandos coming to the platform in 2024, we're sure the streamer will be hoping to turn things around this year.

11. Gen V (Amazon Prime Video)
12. Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (Amazon Prime Video)
13. Manifest (Netflix)
14. Outer Banks (Netflix)
15. Silo (Apple TV+)
16. Shrinking (Apple TV+)
17. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime Video)
18. Invincible (Amazon Prime Video)
19.The Night Agent (Netflix)
20. Ginny & Georgia (Netflix)
21. 1923 (Paramount+)
22. Upload (Amazon Prime Video)
23.BEEF (Netflix)
24. Shadow and Bone (Netflix)
25. Criminal Minds (Paramount+)
26. How I Met Your Father (Hulu)
27. Poke Face (Peacock)
28. The Morning Show (Apple TV+)
29. Sex Education (Netflix)
30. Queen Charlotte (Netflix)

But the experts on here told me these Disney+ shows were struggling because of ‘woke’ or some shit 🤨

@FireandBlood - you are spouting nonsense. You said the world. But here

"The list has been compiled based on the share of US viewers over the course of the year"

And you links are all using that whip media report it seems, lol.

I am not bitter you are just too gullible to believe.

There is no definitive way to determine streaming success aside from social media clout. For example, got or stranger things are worldwide hits because you seenit discussed everywhere. Mando and secret invasion? I dont think so, they are all niche

FireandBlood - 1/5/2024, 7:04 AM
@vectorsigma - Social media clout doesn’t determine anything. And you have the audacity to call me gullible. 😂

You’re big mad because two Disney shows are the most streamed of last year, and it shows. Do better for yourself.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 1/5/2024, 7:07 AM
@vectorsigma - Mando, one of the biggest merch sellers, couldn’t be classed in any way, shape or form as “niche”. Neither could a show starting Samuel L Jackson that’s attached of the biggest franchise of all-time. Stop being silly.

@FireandBlood - you are now misdirecting. We are talking about s3 here in 2023. A year when the grogu bubble has already burst.

And seeing you defend Secret Invasion is a travesty itself being a critically panned series and at a time when people dont care about marvel shows

Batmangina - 1/5/2024, 7:17 AM
@vectorsigma - None of those 11 million watched Loki and Ms. Marvel so they don't count. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

As the corporate world sheds its DEI grifter positions, it will all get sorted out.

People don't buy the woke bullshit with ACTUAL MONEY. It's all smoke and mirrors - 'Most Streamed' in the world...meanwhile, The Marvels and everything related to it is headed to the closeout bin in the real world.

Gotta stop talking out your ass, son. Star Wars merch was up in 2023.

And I’m not defending Secret Invasion. But just because it was shit, doesn’t make it niche. That’s dumb talk.
Batmangina

FireandBlood

@Batmangina - Marvels this, Marvels that. You can’t go 3 comments without talking about the one movie nobody gave a shit about last year. It’s coming like you’re a secret fan at this point, ngl.

@Batmangina - I don’t even desire it. Unlike you, I just haven’t got a problem with its mere existence, and that’s the weird part in all this. You’re upset because they make content for girls as well. Not exclusively, but as well. As if it they’re doing something wrong by not exclusively pandering to you.

Where is One Piece and Last of Us on this list?
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 1/5/2024, 8:05 AM
@WarMonkey - Last of Us is a cable show that premiered on HBO, not streaming. And One Piece didn't make the list because it wasn’t a top streaming show.

@WarMonkey - Slow toy sales doesn’t dispute the reports of Star Wars growth. Again, what are you doing right now? 😂
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 1/5/2024, 8:25 AM
@FireandBlood - I'm disputing your article and the narrative you are selling. You posted an article about SW and Marvel growth being a bright spot at Hasbro.

This is what the article states as the bright spot "Hasbro is expecting increased demand to accompany a slew of upcoming, high-profile releases, starting with Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Transformers: EarthSpark, for which the company will produce a range of merchandise. “We have a strong line up of new products in Q4 and into next year, seven new blockbuster films and 20+ streaming and TV shows that we are merchandising against,” added Chris."

So I posted a more recent article showing their projections were incredibly optimistic and didn't bare fruit, so they ended up having to lay off workers due to the low sales of the toys and merchandise for Marvel and SW. There is no indication that Marvel or SW is growing, all the data shows they are getting diminishing returns with every thing they do now.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 1/5/2024, 8:43 AM
@WarMonkey - Star Wars growth, not Marvel. How could you possibly dispute what I’m saying, when you’re not even reading what I’m posting. And not only are you not reading what I’m posting, but you’re outright making stuff up out of thin air, such as Hasbro laying off workers due to Marvel and Star Wars, where no where, absolutely no where, in the article is that ever insinuated, let alone outright stated. In fact, it’s actually their missteps with the D&D license that’s blamed for their shortcomings.

This is getting ridiculous because not only have you’ve gone out of your way to use make up information, you’ve rejected sources you’re entirely incapable of disputing and even cited CANLE shows as proof said sources can’t be accurate about STREAMING shows, all to just disprove nothing anyway.

It would’ve been easier for you accepting what is, instead of embarrassing yourself failing to prove what isn’t.
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 1/5/2024, 8:44 AM
@FireandBlood - I directly responded to a portion of an article you posted. To attempt and claim I'm not reading what your posting is an outright lie. And you are trying to claim I haven't disproven something that some obscure site no one has ever heard of has claimed to be true, which is quite silly. You are trying to insinuate that site's data and analysis is absolute proven proof and gospel, which it is not. They have to prove it, not me or the readers.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 1/5/2024, 8:57 AM
@WarMonkey - I’m not disputing the legitimacy of that sites analytical data, though. You are. So the burden of proof lies on you, especially when that site not only states how they go about providing their statistics on their site, but have yet to be disputed by anyone of any legitimate standing.

Your issue is that they’re providing an unbiased ranking based of analytics, and at the top of those rankings are shows you don’t believe to deserve to be there. Or more so, shouldn’t be there because it doesn’t fit the narrative you’re trying to sell, that both those franchises are failing. But none of that has anything to do with that site’s legitimacy, and everything to do with the fact that the data they’re providing spits in the face of what you deluded yourself to believing to be true based solely on your own personal and biased feelings of those brands.

Lol. Why put effort on disputing a questionable source?

Again they claim these are US data (and you said ww), and even if accurate, it still doesnt show the whole picture ww.

For example, if secret invasion was popular and successful, how come that did not translate to good numbers for the marvels? I was just going by your thinking on si a while ago and i quote

"Neither could a show starting Samuel L Jackson that’s attached of the biggest franchise of all-time"

@vectorsigma - Get over it dude. Fvcking christ. It was a good show that a lot of people enjoyed. Then you come here trying to be a contrarian and act like the floor beneath us is burning. Why are some of you so entirely miserable all the time? The amount of complaining is embarrassing.

We're on a fan site. Let people enjoy wtf this site is about.

vectorsigma - 1/5/2024, 7:49 PM
@Tonic24k - look at what you have posted and tell me who is miserable, lol.

A guy says fake stuff (claiming it is ww data when it specifically said it is us for example) and we will simply let it pass? Ok, if you believe everything right away then im good being a contrarian

@FireandBlood - It's existence is killing it. That's fine with me. The market decides. The market doesn't want it. Just like me.

They are welcome to make shitty content and lose money doing it. Which they are.

You're allowed to ride the wave over the cliff with them and cheer them on from your enlightened moral high ground. Which, apparently, you are.
