Disney+'s upcoming Star Wars series, The Acolyte, recently entered production, and Lucasfilm released a vague synopsis to give fans a better idea of what to expect from the show.
While the logline seemed to suggest that things would play out from the perspective of the Jedi, it's now been confirmed that the story will actually be "Sith-led."
During a press tour to promote the third (and final) season of HBO's His Dark Materials (via SFFGazette), Dafne Keen was asked if she could share anything about her first trip to the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
The Logan star, whose role is still under wraps, was hesitant to reveal any specific details, but may have divulged a little more than she realized while discussing the show.
“No, I mean, as you know, it’s set 100 years before the prequel movies, and it’s kind of an explanation of how the Sith infiltrated the Jedi. It’s a Sith-led story, which has never been done before. It’s been really fun to film – the cast is amazing, and the director and crew are just lovely. The whole experience is wonderful, and I’m already excited for people to see it.”
Showrunner Leslye Headland has previously stated that The Acolyte will dedicate a lot of screen-time to "the antagonists," but the news that the show will focus on the Sith "infiltrating" the Jedi is an intriguing new revelation.
The Acolyte will also star Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Carrie Anne-Moss (The Matrix), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), and Dean-Charles Chapman (1917).
The series is described as, "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."
No premiere date has been announced, but we might just get some updates during Lucasfilm's CCXP panel over the weekend, so be sure to keep an eye out.
