The Mandalorian creator and producer Jon Favreau appeared on Good Morning America today to share some official details on The Book of Boba Fett.
There's been a lot of speculation that the new Disney+ show was being developed in place of a third season of The Mandalorian, but The Iron Man director confirmed that the series is a completely separate spinoff.
"We didn't want to spoil the surprise during the big Kathleen Kennedy announcement of all the shows [during Investor Day earlier this month], so they let me keep this one a secret, " Favreau said. "So this is actually separate from The Mandalorian season 3. But what we didn't say in that announcement is the next show coming up — what Kathy called 'the next chapter' — is going to be The Book of Boba Fett, and then we go into production right after that on The Mandalorian, back with the main character that we all know and love ... pretty soon following that."
As expected, TBOBF will star Temuera Morrison as the legendary bounty hunter and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. In the post-credits scene of The Mandalorian's season 2 finale, we saw the pair arrive at Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine and lay waste to Bib Fortuna and his guards. Fett then claimed the throne for himself, possibly suggesting that he'll be taking over as an underworld boss in the galaxy far, far away.
Favreau will produce the show along with Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez, who helmed the Fett-centric chapter of The Mandalorian, "The Tragedy."
