The Mandalorian creator and producer Jon Favreau appeared on Good Morning America today to share some official details on The Book of Boba Fett.

There's been a lot of speculation that the new Disney+ show was being developed in place of a third season of The Mandalorian, but The Iron Man director confirmed that the series is a completely separate spinoff.

"We didn't want to spoil the surprise during the big Kathleen Kennedy announcement of all the shows [during Investor Day earlier this month], so they let me keep this one a secret, " Favreau said. "So this is actually separate from The Mandalorian season 3. But what we didn't say in that announcement is the next show coming up — what Kathy called 'the next chapter' — is going to be The Book of Boba Fett, and then we go into production right after that on The Mandalorian, back with the main character that we all know and love ... pretty soon following that."

As expected, TBOBF will star Temuera Morrison as the legendary bounty hunter and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. In the post-credits scene of The Mandalorian's season 2 finale, we saw the pair arrive at Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine and lay waste to Bib Fortuna and his guards. Fett then claimed the throne for himself, possibly suggesting that he'll be taking over as an underworld boss in the galaxy far, far away.

Favreau will produce the show along with Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez, who helmed the Fett-centric chapter of The Mandalorian, "The Tragedy."

There, now we have it, it's it's own thing.

Don't get why people thought Disney would change it's most successful shows.
Also it's a perfect set up, shoot it when Mando is off on the Lucas Film VP stage in a month.

@Blergh - exactly ppl just want to believe stupid things. But I think it’s also an awesome sign that it appears they are giving Jon and Filoni the “Feige” marvel role now for Star Wars! In them I trust!!!

@Batman5 - hopefully one of them, or both, as much say in their theatrical releases.
I'd totally dig a Filoni written and Favreau directed Episode X.

I'd generally like the D+ shows to deal with the past while movies deal with the future of the Star Wars universe.

Never understood why some people were saying Book of Boba was going to be Mando season 3.

Pumped!

@BlackBeltJones - it felt like fabricated drama to stir the pot.

@BlackBeltJones - Luke showing up must have caused some shortcircuits is a lot of people's brains because the amount of baseless confusion about the post-credit scene was facepalm worthy.

Nice to see that Rodriguez is involved. He did a hell of a job making Boba a badass.

With Robert Rodriguez attached I'm expecting that hard hitting action from his episode of The Mandalorian. I'm kinda hoping we see Boba use the gaffi stick again though. But I'm totally fine with Boba in his freshy minted armour and all the guns.
