Greetings internet people, I bring before you today my Top 5 Best Characters from the Blizzard Starcraft Universe. Let me know your thoughts, Thanks you much.

5. Tassadar

Ah, the High Templar Tassadar. His place on this list is not merely based around his achievements nor his great victories against the Zerg and other enemies. Though he is great warrior indeed, ultimately leading the charge towards the destruction of the Overmind thereby ending the first Zerg Invasion. However, it is the moral stance of the Protoss warrior that gave him such honor. He stuck his neck out for Terrans who were going to be eradicated and paid a large price for it. He also instilled more hope into his people than near any other, when he would unify both the dark and light energies, and lay down his own life to see an end to the Overmind.

4. Jim Raynor

Well I mean, you were expecting that one were you not? What list of excellent Starcraft characters would be complete with out the inclusion of Terran Commander and Revolutionary James Raynor. Jimmy's life certainly is one of great turmoil, but the man never seems to give up the fight. And that's probably his greatest attribute, he never gave up on Kerrigan even after she had slaughtered millions of innocents including many of Raynor's Raiders as well as his good friend Fenix. He never gave up the fight against tyranny in any form, whether it be in the form of the Confederacy, the Terran Dominion, or the United Earth Directorate. He is well liked and respected by many Protoss warriors who had previously viewed Terrans as inferior. All in all, Jim Raynor is that quintessential Space Cowboy everyone's gotta love.

3. Hydralisk

Now hold up, I know what's crossing your mind: "The Hydralisk isn't a character, it's a unit" So I suppose I am technically cheating on this one because there are millions of Hydralisks, not just one. But the truth is, I just had to include it. In my view, the Hydralisk is the single most visually badass piece of work Blizzard has ever rendered. Just the design and the concept regarding the creature is indeed most excellent. Beyond that, the actions of the Hydralisks through out the stories are just great. The Hydralisk does not just charge and attack at random like other creatures such as it's family member; the Zergling. But it is careful, cold, and calculated, lurking in the shadows. Such is how it defeated Praetor Fenix at Antioch during the first great war. This creature is the truest killer.

2. Artanis

Now we come to the top two my friends, and believe me, 'twas truly a difficult choice. Artanis made his beginning in the early days of the first Great War, as a young up and coming Executor within the Templar Caste. However it is in the highly controversial sequel "Legacy of the Void" where Artanis truly becomes the great leader he will always be remembered for. Uniting a shattered and broken race of Protoss into one unified society is a feat no other Protoss warrior has accomplished. The greatest thing about Artanis is probably his ability to instill hope and purpose within his people, and lead them to a better future. The greatest leader is one who can inspire his people during peace as much as he can during war.

1. Zeratul

Ahh, we come to the final placement on this list. The Dark Prelate Zeratul of the Nerazim, the unsung hero of the Universe. Zeratul is never afraid to dirty his hands in work that would never be considered by the leaders such as Judicator Aldaris. But truly, Zeratul is the truest badass of the Starcraft universe. 'Twas he who would introduce Tassadar to the Void allowing him to destroy the Zerg Overmind. 'Twas he who would be the first to answer Ouros' call to action regarding the Queen of Blades and Amon's surgence. A great shame he ultimately fell at the hand of an Amon-possessed Artanis. But his sacrifice would not be in vain.

Some honorable mentions would include Dominion General Warfield, Fenix, and Gabriel Tosh. I do like Kerrigan/Queen of Blades, but she feels like that character that gets to be the uncanny plot device whenever some thing big happens, especially when she ascends to the Xel'Naga.

Thanks you for reading friends,
En Taro Zeratul

@Scorpion8125
Agreed. Though I prefer Warcraft as an RTS game.

Starcraft just always had the best lore, it was the first sci-fi I ever got into.

I loved Starcraft and Brood War back in the day. Haven't gotten around to playing SC2 yet, I'm mostly a singleplayer guy (the mere thought of SC2 multiplayer gives me headaches tbh) and I wanted to wait until all three campaigns were finished. Maybe I'll play it someday soon.

I adore the Warcraft RTS trilogy, especially 2+3. While I gave WOW a try for a while when it was out it just didn't catch me, and by following it via news and through friends who stayed on longer I can't say I have any desire to go back. If they do another (singleplayer focussed) RTS game I might get it, but I'm not sure how they can salvage the lore for one after WOW.

@HierarchArtanis No love for Kerrigan?!Arguably one of the most powerful characters in the Starcraft Universe :) plus she diced up that wiener Arcturas Mengsk. I remember when I first got starcraft and made nerdy Hydralisk sounds. My top 5.

5. Alexi Stukov
4. Jim Raynor
3. Fenix (so sad when he died twice)
2. Zeratul
1. Kerrigan

Honorable mentions: Samir Duran, Nova

@TayBeames
She is powerful yes, but i feel like half the time she's stripped to being a plot device. Like whenever some thing big happens it's always related to her powers some how. Still a great character, just not my cup of tea I suppose.

Kerrigan should be here. She's badass whether we're talking when she's human or The Queen of Blades. Easily my favorite character.

I loved Artanis as a character in the latest expansion. This trailer really expanded his character and you felt the pain and torment over his actions for what was to come.

A good leader should never so easily send his people to die. They should struggle and question if they are making the right decision. When the time comes and it must me made they should be able to make it but in the end they should be burdened by that decision.

Also John De Lancie aka Q from Star Trek TNG playing Alarak was probably my favorite new character in the expansion. I loved hearing his voice during missions or conversations.
