Ubisoft has released a new image from Assassin's Creed featuring Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse) held in captivity as present day character Callum Lynch. The movie is going to pick up with him after he discovers that he’s a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain.

After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day. Set in the same world as the game, but just how closely tied to them it will be remains to be seen. Assassin’s Creed also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Ariane Labed, and is currently set to be released on December 21st, 2016. Are you guys excited for the movie?

Fassbender lends legitimacy to just about anything. His acting chops are for real.

I like the shot. Looking at this pic, I feel like the atmosphere of this film is going to be very ethereal. Seems like it has a refined darkness to it.

Fassbender will own. He seems really passionate about this. If you've seen Macbeth, you know the VISUALS WILL BE CRAZY!

I unabashedly love Assassin's Creed and based on what the director achieved in Macbeth, I have confidence in this film. My one hope is that they atleast throw some sort of reference, however vague, to Desmond Miles and his ancestors. (I honestly thing that ezio is by far, one of the best video-game characters ever created)

I'm calling it. This movie goes the way of most unnecessary videogame-turned movies and ends up sucking hard

This series has been going to shit since Brotherhood. Hopefully they can pull a good movie out of their asses. Michael Fassbender definitely gives me hope though

Wish they dropped the modern day animus stuff and instead just made a story about the assassin taking on Templars.

Does anyone care about the modern day aspect of the games?

I do find the modern day break a ways increasingly distracting and unnecessary

Want to finally see a good video game based movie? Bring all of our boys home, and adapt this.

As an English lit major, I can confirm that it writes itself.

@DrLight - True, but the epic nature of such a film would unravel the very fabric of existence itself.

@DrLight - good lord, I can only assume you keep bringing up you being an English literature major ironically/as a joke. If not, enjoy the real world once you graduate
