Several months after the events on Banoi, the United States military has put the Golden State under full quarantine. Now a restricted zone, California has become a bloody paradise for those who refuse to leave their homes and an action-packed playground for renegades who seek adventure, glory and a fresh start. Combining the classic Dead Island elements of immersive close combat, action and role-playing, Dead Island 2 features crazy, never-before-seen handcrafted weapons and over-the-top characters in taking players from the iconic Golden Gate to the celebrated beachfront boardwalk of southern California’’s Venice Beach.

I have no trust in Techland so it's nice to hear that it's another studio developing it. I just hope it's more polished than the first 2 installments in the franchise, I remember playing a "dev build" of Dead Island on Steam (with dev interface etc.). Then they released a 1mb update that removed the dev features but not the thousands of bugs and issues the game had (you can't even walk sideways in DI and DI:R without stutter, ridiculous).

By Techland's own words - technically 'Dying Light' is Dead Island 2 - they started working on it then discovered that they had too many good new ideas and new software-tech available - and so turned it into a new title: Dying Light (due 2015 now because it's been delayed due to bug-fixing and quality issues) - I think this is a stop-gap measure release they've whipped up to keep the shareholders happy and their reputation intact.

"Dying Light started out as a Dead Island sequel, but Techland made it a complete new video game because it would contain brand new features, such as a massive open world, new zombies, real time day/night cycle, better graphics, new game mechanics, and much more. Also promising that many of the bugs from Dead Island games would be fixed. On May 8, 2014 Techland announced that the game was delayed due to a "desire to innovate" the Zombie genre. Techland also stated that they will be releasing more information about Dying Light at E3 2014"
