In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, gamers take on the role of Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain in front of him the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and empowered with Wraith abilities, Talion ventures into Mordor and vows to destroy those who have wronged him. Through the course of his personal vendetta, Talion uncovers the truth of the Spirit that compels him, learns the origins of the Rings of Power and ultimately confronts his true nemesis.

Every enemy that players face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session. Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player.

I'm one of those borderline purist Tolkein fans, but even I'm coming around to this game. Unquestionably the gameplay is gonna be amazing, and its such a detailed world it will be like really walking through Mordor. But I still have qualms with a few things. Carugars? Why make up a species of evil dogs when you already have wargs. And what is that a Rancor?? Please. Stick with trolls. No need to make up your own creations, it makes it feel more alien and less like middle-earth. I'm excited to see the Black Numenoreans make their entrance in ME. But because to be competitive in todays games you arguably need power ups and super weapons, I can see why these wraith powers are being used. Even though they are the worst offence to Tolkiens world in the game. The human-wraith hybrid with super powers does not belong in ME. Sadly, we must accept it and enjoy the game I guess.

Haha yeah I keep hearing how awesome this game is...as long as you can completely separate it from having ANYTHING to do with Tolkien's world. Because it really has nothing to do with it at all, apart from the name. I definitely agree that it sucks to have Tolkien's world affiliated with such a generic fantasy game that isn't even close to the spirit of the books, and it probably would've been MUCH better had they just developed this game to be set in a fantasy medieval world without using Lord of the Rings as a crutch...but I'm not going to get all bent out of shape about it.

If anyone is upset that Tolkien's name is being attached to anything, they should be directing those feelings towards The Hobbit movies...not a mostly harmless video game.
