In what's sure to be very exciting news for gamers, Deadline in reporting that Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a live-action show based on Electronic Arts' best-selling Mass Effect video game series.

Details are few and far between, but this is said to be one of several genre projects in the works for the streamer following the success of The Boys and the recent Wheel of Time adaptation, which, according to Amazon head Jennifer Salke, was the "most watched series premiere of the year and one of the Top 5 series launches of all time for Prime Video.”

“You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genre of all kinds, we have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more,” Salke added.

Speculation mounted that a Mass Effect movie or series might be in the planning stages when Man of Steel and The Witcher star Henry Cavill took to social media to tease a mysterious new project he may or may not be associated with earlier this year. We have no idea if this is the same show that Amazon is working on, but it certainly seems like a decent possibility.

Mass Effect is a popular sci-fi action video game franchise created by Casey Hudson, Drew Karpyshyn and Preston Watamaniuk. The first game follows Systems Alliance Navy vet Commander Shepard who faces off against an ancient machine race known as The Reapers when they attempt to invade the Milky Way.

We'll update as soon as we hear more, but for now, be sure to let us know what you make of this news in the comments.
