Michael Fassbender Weighs In On Why ASSASSIN'S CREED Failed And A Possible Sequel

Assassin's Creed bombed when it was released last year and Michael Fassbender has now weighed in on what went wrong with the video game adaptation and whether or not he believes a sequel could ever happen.

On the surface, it appeared as if Assassin's Creed would be the first truly great video game movie. With a superb cast and director, the ingredients were all there and Ubisoft's involvement appeared to guarantee this adaptation wouldn't go wrong where others had failed. Now, Michael Fassbender has shared his thoughts on why it simply didn't work and he's surprisingly critical about its many problems.

"I would make it more entertaining, that’s really the main note," the X-Men: Dark Phoenix star said of why audiences failed to connect with the movie. "The feeling of the film, I think it took itself too seriously and I would get to the action a lot quicker. I think there’s three beginnings of the film, which is a mistake." With 18% of Rotten Tomatoes, it's fair to say no one found it that entertaining!

The chances of a sequel ever happening seem slim based on Assassin's Creed's box office performance and when he was asked about returning for a follow-up, the actor said, "we’ll wait and see what Ubisoft are coming up with." Chances are that will be a reboot, though there have been rumblings that the franchise could head to the small screen too. We'll just have to wait and see for now it seems.

Answer: Garbage screenwriters with a terrible track record.
The acting, direction, set design, cinematography, etc was all fantastic.

It sucked because the source material isn't very good and the film didn't have the right people on it.

@BritishMonkey - The early source material is really good. But that’s pretty irrelevant conisdiering they went with an original story. Or lack thereof.

The script was uninspired. Get a better screenwriter.

I kinda disliked all the actions sequences except for the chase sequence. That was really well done.

But the script was pretty shit.

Bad script and not enough in the past. Too much in the present, that gets away from the great storylines and action. They basically tried too hard to make it sophisticated and smart, when AC is all about the past characters and the fighting.

I thought it was ok, but as a big fan of the games...it missed what made them special. Looked gorgeous and was a greeat cast, get more of the input from the game creators and try it again. Hollywood has this weird obsession of using game IPs that have amazing potential for the big screen or small screen, and just want to make it as different as possible. I always assume it is the higher ups, unless a director like Nolan is in charge. A good ration for taking from game to your own unique input should be like 75 game/25 your own take imo.

Didn't see it, but I like to see people post BOTH RT scores when using it as an indicator since I tend to find the audience score more helpful.
Having said that, I'm guessing that number is abysmal as well in this case.

I feel bad for Fassy, he's a great actor, he should pick movies like McCoy.
