We've known for a while now that prominent video game publisher Activision Blizzard was looking to develop an entire expanded film universe based on its wildly popular Call of Duty franchise, and now it looks like Activision Blizzard Studios - the company's film division - has taken a huge step toward making that happen.

According to VarietySicario 2: Soldado director Stefano Sollima is in negotiations to helm a movie adaptation of the popular video game franchise. An Activision Blizzard rep declined to comment on the rumor.

Kieran Fitzgerald penned the script for the movie, which is still currently without a distributor. Although plot details are being kept under wraps, both Fitzgerald and Activision Blizzard Studios' co-president Nick van Dyk previously discussed their plan to put together a universe "that will draw on the feel of the different incarnations of the game rather than bringing over existing plots." The two are hoping to turn the mega popular Call of Duty franchise into a cinematic universe that could rival Marvel or DC. At least one of those seems achievable.

Call of Duty enthusiasts will get their first glimpse of Sollima's potential when Sicario 2: Soldado opens in theaters on June 29.

I would like to see a movie on Modern warfare 2 based on the wolverines, of their own accord, second sun and whiskey hotel. And maybe a special appearance from Task Force 141

From all possible video game movies they want to try this one?
The games aren't even good, only for 12 year old kids who don't know sh*t about good games.

@BootyPeep - Call of duty 4, Modern warfare 2, Infinite warfare and ww2 campaign prove different

@PantherKing - No, they don't prove anything. These games require no skill at all.

@BootyPeep - I’m talking about the story to the games not the game play. If you want to do something that requires skill join the military. These games aren’t supposed to mimick the military

@PantherKing - The stories aren't even THAT good, compared to other games I played.
And I'm talking about gaming skills. These games don't come even close to others like fighting games or strategy games have to offer.

You could literally put Call of Duty on any WW2 movie the last 20 years and it would make sense. Making a COD movie is just for the sake of the brand name. I kind of get it but it’s stupid.
