Dark Horizons caught up with producer Lauren Shuler Donner who provided the site with an update on X-Men 3. "Ideally, I would love to come out summer of 2005 which means we'd better get going, but it's going to take a while to make the deals and all that," Shuler Donner said. "What we did was made everybody two-picture deals, so anybody who was in the first two are not but (Shawn Ashmore, a.k.a. Iceman) is and Colossus and Kitty Pride."
The producer added that she "can't imagine doing it without [Ian McKellen] or Patrick [Stewart] or any of the main cast...and Halle [Berry]. We have to make sure that she's used well and we have a great great storyline for her, or maybe we do a Storm movie."
Shuler Donner also revealed that X2: X-Men United screenwriters Mike Dougherty & Dan Harris will reprise their duties for the third film, and that the storyline will most likely touch upon the Dark Phoenix saga set-up at the end of X2 "so we have to follow that thread along with some other stories."
"We're also going to develop a Wolverine movie at the same time," said Shuler Donner, "but it won't come out until after X3."
So which new mutants might appear in X-Men 3? Well, for that answer you'll just have to check out Dark Horizons.
