Originally a training video for the military, "Act of Valor" will be a feature length film inspired by 'Call of Duty'. Call of Duty is a video game series featuring elite squads of American soldiers who take place in world events. The most recent title is 'Call of Duty: Black Ops'. Black Ops takes place during the Cold War, and features a conflict between the U.S. and the Russians (classically). For those who don't know, Black Ops is one of the highest grossing games of all time.
The Call of Duty series is known for its cinematic and realistic portrayal of military science and missions. Albeit a bit too "Michael Bay-ish" at times, it is still widely regarded as the best, breaking records like crackers in your soup.

Coming soon is 'Act of Valor', which is reportedly based on a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad, the writer of the '300' screenplay. Since '300' was so successful, we can count on Act of Valor possibly doing well also. Act of Valor will feature real-life American soldiers in a fictional scenario.

What do you think? For those who are American here on CBM, do you believe that a film like this may spark inspiration in the hearts of our people?

For those of us who aren't American, do you believe that games like 'Call of Duty' incorrectly portray Americans or American soldiers? How do you view films and games that glorify them, and do you think that this movie may be a bad idea or ultimately a good one?

Official synopsis:
‘Act of Valor’ follows a Navy SEAL squad on a covert mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent, and in the process takes down a complex web of terrorist cells determined to strike America at all costs.

In case you were wondering, Call of Duty DOES have a comic book.

Act of Valor will be skydiving in for theatrical release in the U.S. on February 17th, 2012.

I don't get it. Nowhere in the trailer does it say inspired by COD. I only saw "Real Marines... Real Missions." Then you follow up the COD inspired movie's trailer with an ad for Battlefield 3. That's terrible marketing on Activision's part. Either way the movie looks awesome.

Completely untrue. "Act of Valor" was inspired by a real military training video, which is why it stars real Navy SEALs. Even just a little research shows that this "article" is a weak claim with nothing concrete to back it up, and it's a little insulting, I think, to those in this movie. COD is based on THEIR work, NOT the other way around.
