Daisy Jones & The Six star Camila Morrone is officially heading to 1980s South Beach Florida, becoming the newest powerhouse addition to the stacked Miami Vice ’85 cast.

She boards a sequel/reboot project that will see Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Sinners) and Austin Butler (Elvis, Dune: Part Two) star as Crockett and Tubbs.

Other confirmed cast members include Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story, Weapons) and Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping).

Peak is sad to be portraying Tubbs' (Michael B. Jordan) main love interest in the reboot. Word on the street is she might actually be playing the role of Valerie Gordon; an iconic role famously originated by the legendary Pam Grier.

Meanwhile, details on who Ehrenreich and Morrone are playing are still being kept strictly under wraps by Kosinski.

Jordan and director Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) were attached to the project first, with Butler coming into the picture much later.

Butler reportedly fell in love with the script and pursued the role very aggressively, despite reports that Universal originally had their eyes on Glen Powell. Butler’s pitch was so convincing that Jordan himself jumped in to lobby the studio to lock him down instead.

It was first confirmed that the Top Gun: Maverick director would be helming the project back in November 2025.

On working with Jordan and Butler, he stated, "Michael is someone I’ve admired for a long time, [and] always wanted to work with him. Austin, I think, is proving himself as someone to watch. Again, I’ve just have really admired his choices."

The Miami Vice reboot is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on May 19, 2028. Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) and Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun: Maverick) are co-writing the script. It was previously reported that the film will take its cues from the pilot episode of the original TV show.

Similar to Top Gun and F1, the film is being developed specifically for the IMAX format.

The original Miami Vice show followed two undercover detectives, James "Sonny" Crockett (Don Johnson) and Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas), who are partnered together in the Metro-Dade Police Department's Vice Squad in Miami, Florida.

They worked undercover to infiltrate and take down the city's vast criminal underworld, focusing on drug cartels, arms dealers, and sex traffickers.
