Murder, blackmail, theft, extortion — just another summer in Hollywood. It’s 1977, eight years after Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) encountered the Manson family in Quentin Tarantino's parallel history of 1969, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood.
In The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher from a new script by Tarantino, the fairy tale is over. Los Angeles no longer needs a hippie-slaying stuntman the way it did. But Hollywood will always have problems, problems that can only be solved by someone with Cliff's unique (occasionally extralegal) abilities.
When he’s not earning his keep bartending, or as a projectionist, Cliff Booth is a fixer, solving situations for Hollywood’s great and, sometimes, not so good.
As we first reported on ActioNewz.com, a new trailer and poster for the movie just dropped, offering a better idea of what to expect from the sequel. The movie's A-list cast is also highlighted, though it's clear that Fincher's follow-up to Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is designed as a showcase for Pitt (they've worked together on several films, including Fight Club and Se7en).
During a recent interview with Empire, Fincher was asked how The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth came about. "We have a mutual friend [Brad Pitt] who was disappointed that he wasn’t going to play Cliff Booth again, and he said, 'Do you want to read this [script]?' I said, 'I would love to.'"
The filmmaker continued, "He said, 'But do you want to read it?' And I said, 'I wouldn’t do that unless you have permission.' And he came back and said, 'I have permission!' And I said, 'Okay, I will read it.' And I was smitten."
Tarantino was also on hand to share his reaction to Pitt suggesting that Fincher direct the movie. "Oh, you could have knocked me over with a feather. I was like, 'Really? You think he’d be interested? F***ing yeah: show it to him!'"
As this latest sneak peek establishes, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will see the title character receive a call from talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki), on behalf of her client, TV megastar Charlie Peters (Scott Caan), a man known for doing his own stunts.
He’s further entertained and intrigued when he meets other characters in Charlie’s world, from his knowing wife Toni (Carla Gugino) to pro football champion turned screen star Roderick "Hot Rod" Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Then there are the Verdusco brothers (Matt Groove and JB Tadena), mysterious gangsters causing mayhem across the city.
What was once a fairy tale is now a crime story — a cocktail of violence, ambition, and desire that could only happen in LA.
Directed by David Fincher and written by Quentin Tarantino, the movie stars Brad Pitt, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian.
Discover whether the further adventures—or misadventures—of Cliff Booth end happily ever after on November 25 and on December 23 on Netflix.
