While Marvel fans were certainly looking forward to seeing Chris Evans (Captain America) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) paired opposite one another in Dexter Fletcher's upcoming romantic action-adventure film Ghosted, it looks they'll have to pump the brakes on a Steve/Nat reunion for the time being as Johansson has exited the high-profile project due to a scheduling conflict.
Fortunately, Apple and Skydance have already found a more than worthy replacement. Deadline reports that Ana de Armas (No Time to Die) has joined the cast as the female lead, which reunites the Golden Globe-nominated actress with her Knives Out and The Gray Man co-star Evans.
2x BAFTA Film Award-nominee Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman; Eddie the Eagle) is set to direct with a screenplay from Deadpool and Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The dynamic writing duo also recently scripted Netflix's Escape from Spiderhead, which will star Chris Hemsworth in the lead role.
Plot details are being kept heavily under wraps, but the project was previously being described internally as a high-concept romantic action-adventure movie in the same vein as the Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner classic Romancing the Stone.
Production is slated to begin in February, which didn't work for Johansson, so expect to hear a lot more casting news in the coming weeks. Evans and Armas wrapped the Netflix actioner The Gray Man with the Russo Brothers earlier this year, and the latter was also recently revealed to be in talks for Len Wiseman's John Wick spinoff Ballerina.
