Sony's upcoming action movie Bullet Train really is shaping up to be a star-studded affair, as Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Knives Out) is the latest big name to join the impressive ensemble cast.

Deadpool 2 director David Leitch's high-concept thriller also has Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji and Zazie Beetz on board. No details on Shannon's role were provided.

Based on Japanese novel Maria Beetle by best-selling author Kotaro Isaka, Bullet Train follows "five assassins on a fast-moving bullet train from Tokyo to Morioka with only a few stops in between. They discover their missions are linked to one another. The question becomes, who will make it off the train alive and what awaits them at the terminal station?"

The movie will be produced by Kelly McCormick through 87North, along with Antoine Fuqua. Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma Terada of CTB Inc will exec produce. The script was penned by Zak Olkewicz (The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Fear Street 2).

Shannon will probably be best known to CBM fans for playing General Zod in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, but he's also had memorable roles in the likes of The Shape of Water, Knives Out, Boardwalk Empire and Loving. He has been nominated twice for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performances in Revolutionary Road and Nocturnal Animals.

In the tiny image near the header Michael Shannon looks like Peter Dinklage, and the banner image he looks like Boris Karloff.

Looking forward to it. Brilliant in 'The Iceman' (2012) - effortlessly sinister.
