The 2000 film Pitch Black, did very well at the box office, easily outpacing its miniscule $23 million budget. That type of success only means one thing to Hollywood: sequel! David Twohy, who wrote and directed the first film, was brought back for The Chronicles of Riddick, and newly crowned star, Vin Diesel, had returned as well. Even the budget received a huge upgrade, with an extra $100 million more to play with. That's one of the reasons the film is considered a dud. It opened in 2004 and pulled in $115 million at the worldwide box office, $5 million short of its production budget. It's not all gloomy news, as the film did perform much better through DVD sales.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Riddick was directed and written by David Twohy. The cast includes: Vin Diesel, Katee Sachoff, Jordi Molla, and Karl Urban. The film will be directed by David Twohy, Matt Nable, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Keri Hilson, Bokeem Woodbine and David Bautista. Its set to hit theaters September 6th, 2013.

Great movie. Don't care if there's 8 minutes worth of things wrong with it.

Loved Pitch Black (it's not for the faint of heart though). Hated Chronicles.

I usually like these videos, but since I'm a big-time Riddick fan it just sounds to me like the guy narrating this video just has a huge stick up his ass.

And to sKeemAn, If you haven't seen the Director's Cut I highly recommend that you do so. There are 3 different cuts of the film (theatrical, director's, and blend of the two that gets shown on TV) IMO the Director's Cut is by far the superior version.

I liked Chroncles much more than Pitch Black.
The universe and it's mythic seemed alot more fleshed out.
It showed Riddick as being more important than a thug with freaky eyes.

Pitch Black was awesome and Chronicles was awesomely bad, but in a good way. It's so crazy and insane that it makes up for everything wrong with it. Just saw the new one, if you're a fan of Pitch Black then you'd probably like Riddick.

I had no idea there was a director's cut, so a few moments in this video confused me a bit.

@Folchibas, Pitch Black was an epic story about heroes and villains. Chronicles was hacky crap.

Chronicles of Riddick was pretty good. It is an entertaining movie. They need to make a Riddick movie like the video game Escape from Butcher Bay which would be awesome.
