After his accident on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Dylan O'Brien had to put the final film in the Maze Runner trilogy on hold until he recovered. Well, he's feeling much better now, but instead of running around mazes, O'Brien will be kicking ass and building up a body count as Mitch Rapp in American Assassin.

CBS Films and Lionsgate have released the first action-packed trailer for American Assassin based on the book of the same name written by Vince Flynn, and it stars O'Brien as Mitch Rapp, a CIA black ops recruit, who after the death of his girlfriend, is determined to do whatever it takes to kill those responsible. Under the tutelage of Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton), a Cold War veteran, and with the help of Annika (Shiva Negar), a Turkish ally, Rapp will take on a mission to thwart a dangerous rogue operative's (Taylor Kitsch) plan to start the next world war.

American Assassin hits theaters September 15th, 2017.

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.
