Hans-Zimmer.com (via Film Music Reporter) has confirmed that Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer will join Academy Award-nominee Harold Faltermeyer to compose the score for Paramount's highly-anticipated action sequel Top Gun: Maverick, which stars global megastar Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Fallout) in the title role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell.

Faltermeyer, of course, composed the score for the original 1986 classic and the upcoming sequel will be his first time reuniting with Cruise in well over thirty years. Meanwhile, Zimmer, who has Dark Phoenix, The Lion King, and Wonder Woman 1984 on the docket for next year, has previously worked with Cruise on Rain Man, Days of Thunder, Mission: Impossible II, and The Last Samurai

The massive Cruise-led ensemble will feature Val Kilmer (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), Jennifer Connelly (Only The Brave), Jon Hamm (Bad Times at the El Royale), Ed Harris (Westworld), Miles Teller (Whiplash), Glen Powell (Set It Up), Monica Barbaro (Splitting Up Together), Charles Parnell (A Million Little Pieces), Jay Ellis (Insecure), Bashir Salahuddin (GLOW), Danny Ramirez (Assassination Nation), Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Kara Wang (Good Trouble), Jack Schumacher (Empire), Greg Tarzan Davis (Chicago P.D.), Jake Picking (Sicario: Day of the Soldado), Raymond Lee (Scandal), Jean Louisa Kelly (Ant-Man), and
Lyliana Wray (Strange Angel).

Joe Kosinski (Oblivion; Only The Brave; Tron: Legacy) is directing with a script from Peter Craig (The Town), Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle). Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board as a producer alongside Cruise and David Ellison.

Plot details remain under wraps for now, but the film will reportedly be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters and will also explore the end of the era of dogfighting.

Top Gun: Maverick flies into theaters June 26, 2020

@Feralwookiee - There's no reason for any movie to exist. They are only for entertainment. Don't go see it if your not interested.

It would take some real fallout to not want to collaborate with Tom Cruise again.

I am starting to like this movie more and more. There is only one thing still missing that this movie needs to have. And that is Kenny Loggins

This smells like a poor attempt at a cash grab by a studio, tom crusie and jerry bruckheimer. using an old IP that frankly nobody cares about under 30. They should go and make some cool new movies instead of rehashing old movies that will never be better than the original. Then again the combined age of the key players is 60+ they clearly have no clue what younger generations want.
How about green lighting a script that could be the next Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Instead of going thru the archives to rehash crap like top gun. Just think if we didn’t have Star Wars and Indiana Jones we would be watching Lawrence of Arabia 15 right now.
Start making movies that people actually want to see.
