With the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was only a matter of time before Disney turned to their other big Lucasfilm acquisition, Indiana Jones. Last week, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford were confirmed to be returning for a fifth installment, set to be released on July 19, 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Koepp, who wrote 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will also return to write the script. Koepp has also written Jurassic Park (1993), Mission: Impossible (1996), Spider-Man (2002) and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014).
To be fair to Koepp, he had the unenviable task of trying to cobble together a coherent script for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from prior drafts written by George Lucas, Jeff Nathanson and Frank Darabont. This time around, it appears that Koepp will have the freedom to develop his own ideas.
Currently the film is scheduled to go against Inhumans (07/12) at the box office but expect Inhumans to shift to another date.
Ford was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and expressed his excitement for the project.
