Yeah, 'Raider's' is a superlative film( can I use that language on this site?)

However, this box set means one thing:

The franchise is dead.

Jaws hasn't been rebooted, Back to the Future hasn't been rebooted, Poltergeist hasn't been rebooted, Gremlins hasn't been rebooted, Alien hasn't been rebooted and neither has Predator for that matter they just got more sequels, prequels and mash-ups.

What made 'Raiders' so great IMO, is that it was based on real archaeology.
The Ark of the Covenant has never been found- no one knows where it is. So it was easy to believe the premise of the screenplay.
I wonder what kind of reaction the world would have if it actually WAS found.

@SuspenseSmith- Yeah, good point.
Where my head's at is Lucas is semi-retiring now- and being that 'Skull' was such a fail- he probably just wants to retire Indy with some dignity . Hence the box set and his grand finale(3-D) of the Star Wars saga. (what ELSE can he do to the films?!)LOL!

What made Raiders and all the movies great was that they were based on the old Black & White serials from the 30's and 40's like King of the Rocketmen, Flash Gordon, Daredevils of the Red Circle and The Fighting Devil Dogs. Their 'cliffhanger-Peril every ten minute' format was well homage'd by Lucas and Spielberg. That Crystal Skull shite just ruined the flow.

My order for the best of Indiana Jones

1. Raiders (just so iconic)
2. Crusade (very close)
3. Temple (easy to say this is my least favorite of the 3, but still a great movie)
4. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (it's a video game, and it's still beats out film imitators)
5. Every episode of Doug involving Race Canyon
6. National Treasure (best Indy film since Last Crusade)

Sadly, while I am kidding, 4 and 6 seriously are better Indiana Jones experiences than Crystal Skull.

We really only need the trilogy. The last movie was a big stinky turd on some rotten road kill.

So how is George gonna F with this release? New CGI? Story tweaks? I'm sure he will do something to screw with it.

@niknik: Indy had far less problems than Star Wars during production, they will probably only add the same blooper corrections that were on the DVDs...

I don't know why Crystal Skull gets so much hate?? It was a critical and commercial success and it was an Indiana Jones movie.. Yeah he was old, but they played it well, and it's continuity with raiders was amazing..

ill get it even tho crystal skull was horrible and as long as lucas does not change anything in those movies w his insanity like he did w star wars... i refuse to buy anything that he changes

Love these movies. Even Crystal Skull. Yeah it has its weak moments but its still a fun movie.

@headlopper "What made 'Raiders' so great IMO, is that it was based on real archaeology." I agree with this is what makes Indy great... But this can be said for all of them. Sankarra stones dont exist, but there are legends of sacred stones and the Thugee did exist. The holy grail has always been sought after. Though the crystal skull has been debunked, Ancient Alien theory still exists. So overall Indiana Jones just seeks out any legend or myth and thats why I think its cool.

I hope they put the scene where Indy slaps shortround around the place in Temple, I was really peeved when they removed it from the DVD release.

The "Indiana Jones" won´t be dead as the amazing comicbooks and pocketbooks which were been released over the years continue.

I loved the Marvel (80´s) and Dark Horse (90´s)Indy comics, they were very creative and smart.

I also loved the PS2 videogame "Emperor´s Tomb".

"Staff of Kings", well, not that much.

They just need to save some of the staff who´s always involved with the Star Wars games to do some Indy games.

@Tevii- Agreed. Good point.
I stress the Ark of the Covenant because it's def something we all know about(in Western culture) and believe was/is real. It was just fascinating to imagine someone actually found it, framed around this incredible story and iconic character... Indianan Jones of course!

It makes you wonder what WOULD HAPPEN in such a situation!
Just great movie making IMO!

I really need to pick up a Blu-Ray player. The Indiana Jones Trilogy is one of my favorite movie trilogies.

Even though KotCS is included, I don't have to watch it. Nor would I want to.

@teabag Young Indiana Jones was the shit. :)

I still even have some of the episodes on VHS. Lol, I don't have a VCR anymore though.

I'm sorry but Steven should do another film and the only thing George should get credit for are the characters themselves.

George stay away, you've lost it, you don't have it anymore.

Steven write it, direct it and John Williams and Harrison Ford return. No kid in the next one.

I didn't mind Indy being older... But aliens?? In a Indian jones movie??

The crappiest of the 4 Indy films are temple of boredoom and crystal skulls. What do they both have in common? Glowing rocks and no Nazi's. No freakin nazi's!!! That's a recipe for fail every time!

I don't see whats wrong with aliens in an Indiana Jones movie.. The franchise is known for making the mystical and magical real, why not aliens? Aliens are most likely real, and spirits and magic most likely aren't real, so they are actually more practical than the previous movies.. Also how are you guys complaining about the movie having Nazi's? The movie is set 12 years AFTER WW2 (19 years after Crusade, just like real life)..
The Nazi's weren't even around anymore, how would it make sense having them as the villain??? I mean some of you fanboys actually have to think before irrationally judging the movie for NOT having plot holes

People who dog on KOTCS seem to be stuck in a nostalgia laden butthurt. The story completely fit for the time period it's set in, Roswell happened in 47 and UFO fever was all the rage then. I for one liked it, sure there were a few cheesy parts, but Temple of Doom had 'em too. Anyway back on topic, it sucks we have to wait until Fall for this, and too bad the Young Indy series probably won't ever be put on Blu.
