No, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is not playing the daughter of Indiana Jones... but she is his god-daughter!

Following the recent Indiana Jones 5 cover reveal and series of stills spotlighting Indy (Harrison Ford) and the rest of the main cast members, Empire (via ActionNewz.com) has debuted a first official look at the character played by the popular Fleabag and Solo: A Star Wars Story actress.

Details on Waller-Bridge's mysterious female lead had been kept tightly under wraps, with speculation mounting that she may be introduced as the child of the legendary hero. Now, it's come to light that she'll actually be playing the intrepid archaeologist/adventure's god-daughter, Helena.

“She’s a mystery and a wonder,” says the Fleabag star of her character. "[Producer Kathleen Kennedy] was in London and asked to have dinner with me, and casually mentioned this. I immediately ordered ten bottles of wine. Then it was the fastest I’ve ever read a script; I came out of a sort of haze afterwards. I just couldn’t believe how much fun I had and how moved I was by it. And then I had a Zoom and screamed, ‘YES!’ at them all.”

Though we're still not sure how Helena will factor into the story, director James Mangold's describes her as "slippery, charming, the girl next door, a grifter,” which suggests she's picked up her godfather's penchant for getting into trouble.

Get a first look at Helena alongside Doctor Jones below.

Indiana Jones 5 will find Dr. Jones once again coming up against his favorite foes, the Nazis. We also have confirmation that the movie will be set in the 1960s during the space race, possibly incorporating elements of Operation Paperclip.

Logan director James Mangold is at the helm, with John Williams returning as composer. Kathleen Kennedy, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will serve as producers.

If it's set in the 60s doesn't that mean that Indy is only 20 years older? Must have been a rough 20 years

A Rey situation incoming. I'm sure Darth Kennedy will do us justice lol

Won't be surprise if there's a scene where she's trashing Indy and say how dumb he is just coz he's an old MAN..

I still think that if this one works and it fits the story they should consider continuing the franchise with Waller-Bridge and a certain someone who's returned to the spotlight recently.

SPOILERS:
They want her to take over the mantle, similar to the original plans for No Time To Die. They are killing off Indiana Jones and she'll apparently put on the hat at the end. They have about 5 different cuts of the ending according to test screening reports and they all have been received extremely poorly so fingers crossed they end up doing some last minute editing or some reshoots to fix whatever problems the endings have - though notably the film as a whole is also testing poorly apparently.

I wonder if this is supposed to be the explanation for Indy having a daughter in the present day parts of the young Indy series.

Ahhhh yes. The death of another established and loved franchise by unnecessary appeasement for the leftist agenda that nobody really asked for by Kathy Kennedy but feels she must destroy for the sake of wokeness.

Par for the course sadly and Disney under Iger will still continue to fail.

Carry on.

Some proper uneducated comments here. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is very good and i'd have been very hyped for this film if she'd written it
