THE SANDMAN Star Boyd Holbrook Teases LOGAN Director James Mangold's "Badass" INDIANA JONES 5

There was a time when it felt like Indiana Jones 5 was destined to never become a reality, and for some, that might have seemed like a relief after 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the critically panned movie that welcomed Harrison Ford back to one of his most iconic roles after 19 years

Director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas were working on story ideas prior to Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm, with the former officially announced as Indiana Jones 5's helmer in 2016. Set for release in 2019, the movie was pushed to 2021 before Spielberg ultimately decided to step away to focus on other projects.

Now, Logan director James Mangold is at the helm of this fifth chapter and there's a lot of excitement for what he's bringing to the table alongside the returning Ford.

Among the new additions to the franchise are The Sandman star Boyd Holbrook, and he shared some new details about Indiana Jones 5 during an interview with Men's Health (via SFFGazette.com) "I can assure you that it’s going to be badass," the actor says. "I got to see like half an hour of it when I went to L.A., and I saw Jim."

"You know, just look at his work: Ford v Ferrari, it’s gonna be fast, it’s gonna be badass, and it’s gonna have heart. All of his films have this emotional beat in them, but we’ve got this grand scale of Indiana Jones."

And Harrison is the best type of crazy you can get. And I really grew up with Indiana Jones. I wasn’t so big on other franchises, and stuff like that, but to do that, it really just reignited why I want to do this," Holbrook concludes. "To do something and to make something that’s burned into eternity. To be part of Indiana Jones - It’s pretty great."

Production may be nearing its end, but we know very little about what to expect from Indiana Jones 5. It's believed the movie will be set in 1969 and somehow tie into the first Apollo moon landing, but based on set photos, we'll get to see Indy both in his prime and as a slightly older adventurer.

"Badass" is a great choice of word from Holbrook, that's for sure, and hopefully a sign this franchise is being put back on the right track. With Mangold at the helm, we expect nothing less.

Indiana Jones 5 is set to be released on June 30, 2023!

I've always liked this guy so I'm glad he's getting bigger opportunities. Seeing how he's already played comic characters, I wouldn't mind seeing him in the MCU. I think he'd make a pretty good Johnny Blaze

I'm excited. I'll gladly see a new Indy film (and I know I'll enjoy it), and Mangold has a pretty great filmography. I even very much enjoyed Knight & Day. It's a silly film, but they did such a fun job with Tom Cruise's already known super-spy type persona, and just dialing it up to 11 in a very self-knowing cheeky way.

I hope Indy gets killed in someway and is replaced by a badass female character! That would be badass because it would completely subvert everyone’s expectations.

@California - Damn. You were holding that one in for awhile and felt like "This! This is the article I'm going to post it on!" right? You're so cool. A shame you haven't gotten laid yet though. Could make you cooler.

I mean, it's already been done by Spielberg and Lucas, so why not have another director flog the corpse of this franchise while emasculating a beloved character and embarrassing an 80 year man?

It the rumors I hear are correct Jones will go back in time with a woman to fight the Nazi’s who are using time travel to change the world.
Old Jones will run into his younger self, a few-aged Ford from the first movie.
They will fruit together to win and both Jones will die and the woman will take up the mantle and become the next Jones.

If this is true it’s trash. I sure as hell hope not.

Indiana jones is one franchise I couldn't get into. I tried watching a few with my daughter last week after seeing the stunt show in Florida.

They already messed with the franchise making it about aliens, but it seems like they are doing three with a sci-fi theme by my estimation.

@rkshuttleworth - but the existence of God (twice) didn't?

I didn't mind the aliens, just the extra-dimensional part

Never understood how fans could accept the souls of the dead in the Ark, ripping the beating heart off a man's chest or gaining immortality from drinking in the Holy Grail, but aliens were too much.

If anything, they're the most believable thing Indy has had to deal with.

Wait… Indiana Jones 5? There’s an Indiana Jones 4? Or did I erase that one from my memory?

I kinda hope Holbrook ends up playing that Nazi with the mechanical arm from that scrapped Monkey King script (other scrapped ideas I still wanna see are the motor chase across the Great Wall of China, the haunted mansion opening and the valley of dinosaurs).

Also, I think Holbrook could make a great Flash
