IRON MAN 3 Director Shane Black Is Still Hopeful To Get The DOC SAVAGE Movie Made
It's been over a year since we've had an update on the status of Doc Savage, and while it seems like a long shot that the movie will ever get made at this stage, director Shane Black is still optimistic.
The last little bit of news that came out about the big screen adaptation of Doc Savage was that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had signed on to play the "Man of Bronze." Fast forward a year, and fans are still scratching their head wondering, "Is this film ever going to get made?"
While chatting with Pure Grain Audio, director Shane Black talked about what his next project would be after The Predator, and whether it might possibly be Doc Savage. "I don’t know right now because I’m busy editing Predator," he explained. "Editing has begun, so that’s a process not of weeks, but months. Predator is still a focus and will be until November at least. Along the way, I’ll see where things land and the chips fall. We talked about Doc Savage with Dwayne Johnson, but Dwayne’s dance card is pretty full.
Black then went on to explain that the deck seems stacked against them to get the film into production, but says he would be willing to do some juggling of his schedule if it meant he could get it done. "If there’s a slot for us, I don’t know. There might be, I think he wants to do it but you don’t always win. So if that’s the case I might have to shift to something. I’m open to it and I’ll just roll with it. In the meantime, if I have an idea that I think I want to sit down and write by myself, I’ll do that too. The only thing I want to create is something prolific, especially as I get older. I don’t know what I’ll do next after Predator, but I do know that I owe it to myself to first and foremost is to be prolific and not just drift," he said.
As of right now, it doesn't appear as if Doc Savage is on either Black or Johnson's radar - however, things can change fast so it may not be completely dead yet. For the lastest on Doc Savage, check out the Action section of the CBM Index.
