JAMES BOND 25: Danny Boyle Is Reportedly The Favorite To Direct The Next 007 Film

There is a new director at the top of MGM's list for Bond 25. Variety is reporting veteran director Danny Boyle is the favorite to land the job after a change of heart by the studio's brass. While French filmmaker Yann Demange was originally MGM's top choice for the film, the studio is reportedly looking for a more well-known name to helm this movie.

Boyle certainly fits that description, as he has directed a variety of different kinds of films to great success. With movies like Trainspotting, 28 Days Later and the Best Picture-winning Slumdog Millionaire, Boyle is a truly versatile filmmaker. The British director is currently working on Trust, a series about the Getty family that will air on FX.

Boyle has said before that he was interested in making a Bond movie and even directed a short film featuring 007 that was played during the 2012 Olympic opening ceremonies.

This news comes after another star director, Christopher Nolan, confirmed that he was out of the running for the untitled spy film.

Do you think Boyle is a good choice for the Bond franchise? Comment below!

After the last few instalments I can understand why the change up. And he’s done some great films.

Has Daniel Craig confirmed his return? Maybe with a new director a new Bond could be the go too?!

And with the M:I franchise doing so well (to date) it makes sense to have a fresh take.

I’d really like to see a Nolan directed 007 movie and is Craig still playing Bond?

@KingNomarch - We both ponder the question of Craig’s return😊

If this means Ewan McGregor as the villain than I'm in. Boyles great so this could be really cool.

@CurlyBill - 100% down for this

@CurlyBill - That is a damn great idea. Pair Bond with Idris Elba as 009 and they have to take down an evil Ewan McGregor. I want that.

Cool. He’s a great director and I’m jonesing for some more Bond. After superheroes spy films are my favorite film genre. So this, Mission Impossible and Black Widow will really hit the spot.

A solid choice if he gets the Directors gig.

Rian Johnson should direct it with Kathleen Kennedy as producer.
Daniel Radcliffe should play James Bond because he is about 5’ 5” tall and not very intimidating. Daniel Craig was too masculine.

They should make James Bond totally incompetent. He should have a strong female partner that always gets him out of trouble. When James Bond tries to make a move on some evil female spy, he asks for permission first before he tries to kiss her but she turns him down anyway because she “doesn’t need a man”.

Q should be played by a transgender.

Since this is Craigs last turn as the character I hope the next bond they pick is an actor who isn't a major star yet. It always irks me when I see Cavill our Fasbender floated around as bond because it seems so uninspired and they already have big franchises they are attached to. Bonds a big enough character that he doesn't need a hollywood star to play him. My top picks for a new bond are Herry Lloyd, Christian Cooke, our Aidan Turner.

I wouldn't mind this at all. The man knows how to make a movie. 127 Hours is excellent, and though it may not be his best I do like Sunshine quite a bit (even with the sudden cliche horror turn in the 3rd act).

@MosquitoFarmer - Sunshine was quite the experience in theater, very loud and intense !

@MosquitoFarmer - Love it, remember it being used in other movie trailers very effectively. It was also in this film that Chris Evans was very Captain America/mission first. Very underated film, sadly.

@Kevwebsz - Some time ago it was mentioned that Paul McGuigan was being eyed. Not really a well known director. He did a couple of episodes of Luke Cage and a few more of Sherlock and other stuff, but Lucky Number Slevin is why I could see him giving it a go.

@MosquitoFarmer - Such an underrated movie. Makes you wonder why no one involved on the production-side has had much success.

Danny Boyle is one of my favorite director and T2 was my favorite film of 2017. I only liked Casino Royale in recent years, so please, give him the gig !

Bond set on a council estate in Glasgow? "White cider, bartender. A Frosty Jack, shaken not stirred."
