JAMES BOND Video Game In The Works From HITMAN Developers Which Will Explore 007's Origin Story

No Time to Die may have been pushed to next year, but we have some exciting 007-related news for you today as it's been revealed that IO Interactive is developing a new James Bond video game. In this "wholly original Bond story," players will be able to "step into the shoes of the world's favourite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first Bond origin story."

Project 007 - which is the working title - is in development for consoles and PC, and is set to make use of IO's Glacier engine. That was used for the latest Hitman games, so it bodes well for whatever form this project takes (common sense says we can expect a stealth adventure mixed with action).

Casino Royale was an original story for James Bond, of course, while a series of novels have also explored the character's youth, so how this will single itself out as the "first" is unclear.

MGM and Eon Productions are actively involved in production, and IO CEO Hakan Abrakin said the following in a press release. "Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities."

"Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio."

A release date hasn't been revealed, but you can check out a teaser for Project 007 below.

Does James Bond really need an origin?

And if he does then id say his origin is obvious
He is a time lord from the planet galifrey

Keep it in the video games and out of the films.

This sounds like a perfect fit and the Bond series has long been wasted when it comes to video games. Can't wait for Hitman 3.

Bond’s origin isn’t like Joker so much in that we kind of know he has somewhat of a concrete one; just without certain holes filled in with the films at least.

There’s some breadcrumbs and legitimate facts that we know where you could build an origin. The comics and new books have explored it too.

Orphan. Prep School. Royal Navy.

I would love the game to be old school, set in the Cold War era. The origin comic by Dynamite had Bond growing up as a teenager in the post world war 2 era. He was Royal Navy during the Cold War and a game built around how he got on MI6’s radar all the way into his early 00 days would be cool.

Hopefully this won't turn out to be a reskinned Hitman. Definitely need to know more about this, because I'm not fully convinced of the idea yet

It’s about damn time! This is such great news! And IO Interactive is the perfect developer to handle a James Bond game.

Looking forward to more details about this.

Well, if I trust any studio to make a James Bond game, it's this one. They have to do something really different though because otherwise, they could have just added a Bond DLC skin to their next Hitman game and saved themselves the time.
