No Time to Die may have been pushed to next year, but we have some exciting 007-related news for you today as it's been revealed that IO Interactive is developing a new James Bond video game. In this "wholly original Bond story," players will be able to "step into the shoes of the world's favourite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first Bond origin story."
Project 007 - which is the working title - is in development for consoles and PC, and is set to make use of IO's Glacier engine. That was used for the latest Hitman games, so it bodes well for whatever form this project takes (common sense says we can expect a stealth adventure mixed with action).
Casino Royale was an original story for James Bond, of course, while a series of novels have also explored the character's youth, so how this will single itself out as the "first" is unclear.
MGM and Eon Productions are actively involved in production, and IO CEO Hakan Abrakin said the following in a press release. "Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities."
"Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio."
A release date hasn't been revealed, but you can check out a teaser for Project 007 below.
