One of the major appeals of the James Bond films is the fact that they are stand alone adventures that dont follow any distinctive, over arching plot. The only notable exceptions are 1969´s On Your Majesty´s Secret Service and 2006´s Casino Royale, both of which end on a cliffhanger but even then they still stand as their own film and their respective follow-ups are also stand alone but they do resolve the previous plot threats. Well apparently things are going to get more different this year.
According to Filmdivider´s sources the new 007 film Spectre will be the first part of a two-part storyline, with a cliffhanger ending that heavily hints to a direct sequel. The cast is said to be under contract to reprise their roles in the sequel while Sam Mendes will most likely return to helm the movie. They also state that the leaked draft that came out last December has been rewritten significantly, meaning that the previous plot points (which have gained a mixed response from fans) have been reworked.
It would make sense really, Daniel Craig is hired to do one more film after Spectre and it would be the perfect send-off for the fan-favorite actor. But what do you guys think? Would you like a two part James Bond story or would you preffer it to be a self-contained adventure?
