A beautiful young Russian agent who studied as a ballerina, expertly trained at a top-secret facility to seduce, manipulate and destroy her targets.

No, this is not that Black Widow solo movie we've all been waiting for, but Francis Lawrence's (Constantine, The Hunger Games) new spy thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence as a lethal assassin known as Red Sparrow.

Despite the surface similarties to Marvel's lethal Avenger, the film is actually based on the book of the same name by Jason Matthews, and this new trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the plot.

Red Sparrow also stars Joel Edgerton, Jeremy Irons, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ciaran Hinds, Joely Richardson, Mary Louise Parker and Charlotte Rampling, and is set to fly into theaters on March 2, 2018.

When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.

Little late for a first trailer if it’s out in less than 2 months.

@TheMadman - This is not the first trailer. Teaser was released in September.

The poster however is a first and THAT is a bit late 2 months before release.

@noahthegrand - Not really. Russian spies have always been a thing, way before Black Widow became popular.

@Aku - Yeah but sexy female spies raised as children to be assassins with ballerina imagery and COLOR + ANIMAL names? That's just really weird with how similar it is.

@noahthegrand - I just realized all the similarities. You're totally right.

@Maia87 - Companies expand after their chosen names, and in any event; the comparisons to a Black Widow film, and her involvement in X-Men tangentially tie in.

...Suddenly, I don't want that slinky spy-heavy dark Black Widow movie anymore. It just feels like all of this has been done before.

But a Widow-heavy Avengers film that uncovers the modern incarnation of the Red Room facility, discovering and unleashing a dark version of the Avengers with characters like Omega Red, Crimson Dynamo, Kraven the Hunter, the Chameleon (and so on). Actually, I'm kind of into that.

@Spock0Clock - I realize black widow being blond means she is essentialy yelena bolava or whatever. But honestly, i say show yelana, maybe even show emily blunt.

@MissCipher - They're around the same age, so it could work well. A Red Room Netflix series would be great.

I can't wait for all the Black Widow talk when this movie does come out. Oh how it will be overshadowed by that.
