While the first sequel to mega-popular actioner John Wick went with a the simple "Chapter 2" for its subtitle, the upcoming third instalment has broken from the tradition.

While speaking to Collider, star Keanu Reeves revealed that the film will actually be known as John Wick: Parabellum.

In addition to being another name for the Luger handgun, Parabellum is derived from the Latin phrase "Si vis pacem, para bellum," which translates as, "If you want peace, prepare for war." That's certainly fitting, as Reeves' titular assassin is going to have to deal with a lot of people that are trying to put him down for good in this instalment.

In addition to returning stars such as Ian McShane and Ruby Rose, John Wick: Parabellum will feature the likes of Halle Berry, Angelica Huston, Jason Mantzoukas, Hiroyuki Sanada and The Raid duo Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman. The highly-anticipated threequel is set to blast into theatres on May 16, 2019.

i think wick may have one of the best trilogies outside of a cbm films in the last few years if this last one finishes strong ..............

I was a fan of the first one. Thought it was awesome. Thought the second one was really boring, at least the first half was and then I stopped watching. Anyone else thought the second movie was lame?

Yeah...

I agree. Now that I know what the subtitle means it does fit. But as a trilogy; could’ve had more consistency.

Same thing with the Batman Begins, TDK, and TDKR.

@regularmovieguy - When it comes to TDK TRILOGY, I thought the third was going to have a really unique title. I figured each film would have a distinctly different, yet still Batman associated title.

Looking back, Batman Begins should've been The Dark Knight in it. Seeing as how we dub that trilogy TDK Trilogy. The sequel should've been The Dark Knight....something haha.

Thematically they fit, but looking at them together - eh it could make a little more sense.

I watched Chapter 2 on 4th of July, still a great movie. I think Chapter 3 would be a better title as it continues where Chapter 2 left off and as an ending of the franchise if that was the case. The movie will be great and I wonder where it will go from there

I kinda wish it was just John Wick: Chapter 3. It’s consistent with Chapter 2. These movies don’t need stupid sequel makes like “Retribution” and “Equilibrium” and “Genesis” etc.. Punchy and straight to the point, that’s what John Wick is all about.
