With 2022 on its way out, we're going to start looking ahead to next year with our epic 2023 movie preview, where we'll spotlight nearly every major upcoming release studio-by-studio.

While Lionsgate is essentially out of the superhero game, they do have one of the most anticipated titles of the year in their slate with John Wick: Chapter 4, which arrives next Spring and will attract plenty of eyeballs as Keanu Reeves' titular assassin sets his sights on the High Table.

They also have a number of other actioners and comedies to keep audiences entertained, but the one title we're most looking forward is Eli Roth's mysterious Borderlands adaptation!

Check out our Lionsgate 2023 movie preview by clicking the "Next" button below!

Plane

Gerard Butler stars in Plane, an upcoming action-thriller, where he plays a commercial pilot who is forced to make an emergency landing after his aircraft is damaged during a storm. Unfortunately, he lands in hostile territory and gets his passengers taken hostage. He'll then have to team up with a convicted fugitive to rescue everyone and make it off this island alive!

Cast: Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Yoson An, Tony Goldwyn, Daniella Pineda, Kelly Gale, Remi Adeleke, Haleigh, Hekking, Lilly Krug, Joey Slotnick, Oliver Trevena, Paul Ben-Victor, and Quinn McPherson

Release Date: January 13

Detective Knight: Independence

Bruce Willis completed this sequel, where he reprises his Det. James Knight role, prior to announcing his retirement from acting due to his aphasia diagnosis, and the film will mark one of his last on-screen roles. Detective Knight: Independence will be released simultaneously in theaters and VOD in mid-January.

Cast: Bruce Willis, Corey Large, Trevor Gretzky, Lochlyn Munro, Willow Shields, Jack Kilmer, Alvaro Calderon, and Cesar Miramontes

Release Date: January 20

Shotgun Wedding

2023 is shaping up to be an action-packed year for J-Lo, as she not only takes center stage in this romantic action-comedy Shotgun Wedding, which will launch on Prime Video at the end of next month, but she'll also be stretching her action muscles later in the year with Niki Caro's The Mother and Brad Peyton's Atlas, both of which will stream on Netflix.

Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel, Sônia Braga, Jennifer Coolidge, Lenny Kravitz, Cheech Marin, D'Arcy Carden, Selena Tan, Desmin Borges, Alex Mallari Jr., Callie Hernandez, Steve Coulter, María del Mar Fernández, and Héctor Gonz

Release Date: January 27

John Wick: Chapter 4

Yeah, I'm thinking he's back! Keanu Reeves reprises his role as the iconic Baba Yaga in Chad Stahelski's John Wick: Chapter 4! His mission will be his most dangerous yet as he sets his sights on the High Table and sees old friends turn into new enemies, which easily makes this one of the most anticipated titles of the year!

Cast:  Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Ian McShane, Clancy Brown, Marko Zaror, George Georgiou, Rina Sawayama, Natalia Tena, and Bridget Moynahan

Release Date: March 24

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret

After making her feature film debut as the original Cassie Lang, Abby Ryder Fortson takes the spotlight in this coming-of-age drama, based on the Judy Blume novel of the same name. There's another Marvel connection as well with Rachel McAdams playing her mother.

Cast: Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams, Benny Safdie, Kathy Bates, Gary Houston, Mia Dillon, Elle Graham, Amari Alexis Price, Katherine Kupferer, Isol Young, Zackary Brooks, Simms May, Mary Lauren Kennedy, JeCobi Swain, Landon Baxter, Kate MacCluggage, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong, and Ronnie Paulley Jr.

Release Date: April 28

About My Father

Loosely based on comedian Sebastian Maniscalco's real relationship with his father, About My Father stars Maniscalco opposite the legendary Robert De Niro, and based on what we saw at CinemaCon last year, this could be serviceable counter-programming to Disney's The Little Mermaid

Cast: Sebastian Maniscalco, Robert De Niro, Leslie Bibb, Kim Cattrall, Brett Dier, Anders Holm, and David Rasche

Release Date: June 16

The Blackening

The Blackening will challenge the trope that the African-American character is often the first to die in horror movies. Its synopsis reads, "Seven black friends who go away for the weekend only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer who has a vendetta. Will their street smarts and knowledge of horror movies help them stay alive? Probably not."

Cast: Grace Byers, Jermaine Fowler, Melvin Gregg, and Jay Pharoah

Release Date: June 30

Untitled Adele Lim Film

Following her breakout role in Netflix's Emily in Paris, Ashley Park lands a leading role in Adele Lim's feature directorial debut, which is a comedy that "follows the journey of four Asian-American women traveling through Asia in search of one of their birth mothers."

Cast: Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Stephanie Hsu, Sabrina Wu, Desmond Chiam, Alexander Hodge, Chris Pang, David Denman, and Annie Mumolo

Release Date: June 23

The Expendables 4

The Expendables return for their fourth adventure next Fall, with an action extravaganza that will send them to diffuse a nuclear conflict between the United States and Russia. With Sylvester Stallone announcing his retirement from the role of Barney Ross, it'll be Lee Christmas that takes center stage.

Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Dolph Lundgren, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Randy Couture, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, Andy García, Sheila Shah, and Eddie Hall

Release Date: September 22

Saw X

Following the Jigsaw-less Spiral, the Saw franchise returns for its tenth installment in the appropriately titled Saw X, which will see Tobin Bell reprise his role as the horror icon. Plot details remain under wraps, but production kicked off earlier this year.

Cast: Tobin Bell, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach, Renata Vaca, Paulette Hernande, Joshua Okamoto, and Octavio Hinojosa

Release Date: October 27

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Eight years after The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Lionsgate is returning to that world for a prequel based on Suzanne Collins' 2020 novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It will be set 64 years before the events of the first movie and follow a young Coriolanus Snow before he became the villain of the main series.

Cast: Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Jason Schwartzman, Burn Gorman, Peter Dinklage, Viola Davis, Fionnula Flanagan, Isobel Jesper Jones, Dakota Shapiro, Vaughan Reilly, George Somner, Carl Spencer, Scott Folan, Honor Gillies, Eike Onyambu, Konstantin Taffet, Michael Greco, and Daniela Grubert

Release Date: November 17

Borderlands

For whatever reason, Lionsgate has been keeping details about Borderlands deep in their vault, but having seen a small tease at CinemaCon last year, this should easily be one of the most exciting titles on their slate. Plus, with Eli Roth directing from a script he co-wrote with Craig Mazin (The Last of Us), we're rooting for this one!

Cast: Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Haley Bennett, Édgar Ramírez, Bobby Lee, Olivier Richters, Janina Gavankar, Gina Gershon, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond, and Penn Jillette

Man, I remember hunger games were everywhere. All I heard was new it girl Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss Everdeen. Suzanne should've written this book years ago to capitalize off the hype for those films.

Again, a lot of films I'll watch not many I'm genuinely excited about from Lionsgate.

@MyCoolYoung - A Hunger Games prequel sounds almost as bad as that new Bruce Willis film.

Megan Fox is in Expendables?? Also the synopsis is slightly confusing. It says Sly won't be in it but then he's the first name in the cast list.
