NO TIME TO DIE Actress Ana De Armas In Talks To Star In JOHN WICK Spinoff BALLERINA

After impressing with an action-packed role in No Time to Die as Paloma, Ana de Armas (Knives Out) is now in talks to take on a lead role in planned John Wick spinoff Ballerina. Read on for details...

Deadline reports that No Time to Die star Ana de Armas is in talks to take on the lead role in John Wick spinoff Ballerina. If the actress closes the deal, she'll play a "young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family." The character made a brief cameo appearance in John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum, but was played by real-life ballerina Unity Phelan.

Len Wiseman (Total Recall) is set to direct the movie, while Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) penned the screenplay. The trade notes that there are hopes Keanu Reeves and Anjelica Huston will make cameo appearances, but nothing has been confirmed on that front at this early stage.

After a scene-stealing performance in Knives Out, De Armas is making a name for herself in the action realm. She recently impressed with a small, but memorable role in No Time to Die as Paloma and has wrapped work on the Russo Brothers' highly anticipated new Netflix movie The Gray Man.

A fourth John Wick movie is set to be released next year, and this has quickly become one of Lionsgate's biggest franchises. It's no wonder, then, that the studio is keen to develop this spinoff, and we're definitely excited at the prospect of De Armas kicking ass and taking names in a movie like Ballerina.

In our recent review of No Time to Die, we said: "Ana de Armas’ Paloma is another character deserving of the spotlight; she’s a breath of fresh air for a film like No Time to Die, and it’s a shame she doesn’t get more screentime as every second we do get to spend with her is an absolute joy."

Talks are ongoing, so we'll be sure to let you know how this story progresses.

You ever noticed John wick is basically a male black widow? Both are trained assassins with Russian origins, having ballerina training as sort of a cover. Both are part of covert organizations that they would eventually work to overthrow. Not saying they're the same, but the similarities are there. And that should really show how great a black widow movie could've been, had they taken notes from the John wick franchise.

@Origame - Also Sparrow.

It's an easy story element. Russia is known for ballet, ballet is known for how physical it is, so its basically a built-in cover story for any Russian assassin/spy character. Gives the character a basic backstory for how they can do "superhuman" things and an explanation to how they can get into affluent crowds and travel the world with ease.

@Reeds2Much - oh yeah I get that. Just saying, John wick shows how to make a good black widow movie.

Even though she was only in No Time To Die for a brief moment she was one of the highlights of the movie. She was hilarious with how nervous and excited she was to be on a mission but bad ass at the same time.

She was great in no time to die. Wish she was in it more but she stole the minutes she was in.

Once she popped onto screen in No Time I wished she and Bind just had an entire adventure together instead of the movie we got. Or I would love to see a prequel/spin off with She and Felix.
