The famous Japanese manga duo LONE WOLF AND CUB will soon make their way back to theaters in a new remake from Paramount Pictures. Justin Lin, director of several entries in the Fast and the Furious franchise as well as Star Trek: Beyond, will be producing the feature through his company Perfect Storm. Lin is also hoping to direct the new adaptation.
Writing duties for LONE WOLF AND CUB will be tackled by Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en, Sleepy Hollow).
The LONE WOLF AND CUB manga series began in 1970 from creators Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima. The series was widely influential to Japanese popular culture, and spawned a number of adaptations including seven films. Stateside, the series was influential on many American comic artists, including Frank Miller, who provided cover art for the U.S. releases of the manga.
LONE WOLF AND CUB told the story of executioner Itto Ogami's quest for revenge after the murder of his wife and family—except for his infant son, Daigoro. Daigoro accompanies his father and learns from him on their travels.
The project has been in production since 2003, with several failed attempts including one helmed by Mother! and Black Swan director Darron Arronofsky.
