While you can't always trust what you read or watch, especially on the internet, it can still be a tad bit disheartening sometimes.
From various critics:
"Of the 20-plus adaptations of Alexandre Dumas' 1844 best-seller, Paul W.S. Anderson'sThe Three Musketeers may be the biggest budgeted of the bunch but is mainly notable for being the first 3D version of the tale. A fantastical Pirates of the Caribbean vibe is somewhat incongruously grafted on to what has always been a decidedly earthbound tale of sword-play and derring-do in early 18th-century Europe, and while the strength of this long-established cultural brand remains potent, it's unlikely to translate into a money-spinning franchise along Pirate lines." -San Sebastian, Hollywood Reporter
"Good old-fashioned swashbuckling thrills’n’spills, plus an added dose of 3D and special-effects, are the name of the game with this thoroughly enjoyable version of the much-filmed French classic... and a fine adventure romp it is too.
The special-effects are impressive, costumes terrific and the film moves at such a lively pace that you don’t mind the silly plot.
The Three Musketeers is a cracking piece of old-fashioned swashbuckling entertainment... and all the better for it." -Mark Adams, Sunday Mirror
"With its airborne CGI galleons, 3D format and an armed Milady who hides rappelling equipment beneath her corset, helmer Paul W. S. Anderson's version of "The Three Musketeers" is a very 2011 take on Alexandre Dumas' classic that feels weirdly dated already. Although adequately entertaining thanks to lavish production values and game supporting perfs, this anodyne adaptation lacks a killer hook that would help it cross over to a demographic beyond action buffs and fanboys. Canny calendar positioning should help Summit's October release Stateside, but the pic will swash more buckle overseas, where the title has more cachet." -Leslie Felperin, Variety
Well, here's hoping they're wrong! Personally I want to see this one, and I hope it's good. The Three Musketeers comes musketeering into theaters on October 21st!
