So I loved baki 2019 but I could not get into baki hanma. It just seemed cheaper and I don’t understand is this a prequel to the 2019 story with the convicts or did they just decide to skip it and focus on new characters?

@Reeds2Much -

OT.:

I do like the orchestration, and I think I recognize a couple of themes in there.

@DrReedRichards - Kind of swashbuckley with too high a budget. Very epic sounding. Song title makes it seem like it'll be played during the opening credits, which I'm not going to lie I'm hoping against. I needs me a version of We Are here.

@Reeds2Much -

I agree that the latter epic part of the track is way too upbeat for Roger's execution, but the first part sounds ominous enough for the moment, right before his words cause the iconic uproar.

As for We Are, unless they have a rendition of it for the opening, I think they're gonna keep it for the barrel / feet / promise scene.

Although, and I know that's a bit of a hot take, I've always had more of a soft spot for Memories (the 1st ending) over the classic We Are. I don't know, it just makes me feel a lot more nostalgic and giddy inside.

@DrReedRichards - Oh, no no no. I'm 100% on board for Memories. Before mp3 players that song was on ever mix tape I'd make. Those first few chimes as it starts up always hits me. As amazing as I think that particular song is though I still feel We Are is the one that best sets the tone of the anime. Fast paced and chipper, whereas Memories as a bit slower and somber, which made it the perfect ending opposite of We Are.

No, yeah, I feel you. We Are simply is One Piece. There's a reason it's been labeled as one and the same with the series itself.

Also, holy shit, even as a Sanji stan I never expected Zeff to look THIS good in live action!

@DrReedRichards - I still wish they kept all the nonsense but it's nice they at least kept some of it. The hat is, pun completely intended, chef's kiss.

@Reeds2Much -

Same goes for the braided 'stache. Reminds me of Gerard Depardieu from those Asterix movies, and I'm saying this as an absolute compliment.

On one hand, because the first two live-action Asterix & Obelix movies are among the best CBMs ever made, hands down, and on the other hand because Depardieu himself was always my personal fancasting for Zeff, back in the good old years of our Lord "late 2000's", when YouTube was ripe with poorly edited but heartily made AMVs.
