New Screenwriter Joins HIGHLANDER Reboot

But this new screenwriter actually knows a thing or two about Highlander. Hit the jump.

Well it seems that the long in development Highlander remake has found yet another screenwriter. According to Highlander Heart, screenwriter David Abramowitz (who was also screenwriter for Highlander: The Series) will give the script of the remake a new polish. He also wrote the story for Highlander: The Game.

The remake has been in development since 2008 with director Justin Lin (FAST 5, FAST AND THE FURIOUS 6), but he left the project to do Fast 6. Summit Entertainment (Who has the rights for the remake) hired Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (Intacto, 28 WEEKS LATER,Intruders and the cancelled BIOSHOCK movie). In November 2012 Fresnadillo left the movie due to "creative differences". Afterwards Ryan Reynolds who was chosen for the lead of the movie followed suit.

To be honest, I am actually excited for this. The Series was defitenely one of the best things to come out of Highlander and maybe we might see elements from the series brought to the reboot like The Watchers a secret organisazation tasked to monitor the Immortals and the Dark Quickening.

What are your thoughts of David Abramowitz joining the remake? Sound off below and remember folks:

Now this is a step in a positive direction. Though the show kind of flamed out mid-season 5 and into season 6 (particularly as they FINALLY made Peter Wingfield and Elizabeth Gracen regulars and did almost nothing with them).

At any rate, the show had a great mix of drama, humor and action and really embraced some fun mythology building as it went along (so there are some elements that can be retooled to be part of the new take from the ground up). And this time they can either tweak the rules of The Gathering to be a tiered (maybe generational) thing so they can keep a big finale but not have to backpedal in order to allow for sequels (which was kind of a pain with the films and left one glaring bit of discontinuity for the series to handwave away).

why not make a lead guy Japanese and go with Ian Anthony Dale for the part. You can also cast Chow Yun Fat as the villain.

I could see the story first taking place in ancient Japan, or ancient China ( Yun Fat is a Chinesse, he was born in British Colony), then going all modern.

Come on Hollywood ...
