Avengers: Doomsday Casting Confirmed As Oscar-Nominated Actress Joins Upcoming MCU Movie

An Oscar-nominated actress has officially joined Avengers: Doomsday, but Sandra Hüller's mysterious cameo could see her play Doctor Doom's mother or one of the mysterious Latverian Witches.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters in less than two months, and The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Project Hail Mary star Sandra Hüller will appear in the Marvel Studios movie.

The actress, who earned an Oscar nomination for Anatomy of a Fall, is said to have a "cameo" role, so don't bank on her having too much screen time. The trade suggests Hüller is either playing Doctor Doom's witch mother or one of Avengers: Doomsday's mysterious Latverian Witches.

Hüller has also impressed in Zone of Interest, and most recently appeared in the hugely divisive Tom Cruise movie, Digger. Word of her casting first leaked earlier this month, so this confirmation doesn't come as a huge surprise.

In the comics, Doom's mother is a hugely important part of her son's life, and her being trapped in hell ultimately leads to Victor's facial scars. If Hüller is a Latverian Witch, then it remains to be seen whether she's a newly created character or a Variant of a familiar face.

Marvel Studios will release a new look at Avengers: Doomsday later today. However, it's expected to spotlight the Fantastic Four, so don't bank on getting any answers about Doom's followers just yet. In related news, Jeff Sneider has revealed that a recent test screening for the movie went "way better than expected," which sounds pretty positive.

"Doom's magic is an ancient magic. He is a very powerful character. He's a genius. He studies his foes. He understands them, and he's also well-planned," the Russo Brothers recently shared. "He's not somebody who just does something off the cuff. Everything is meticulous with him."

The filmmakers added, "He knows that if he's going to step on a battlefield against somebody, he has to have the tactical advantage or a power advantage against that person. So he's very difficult to beat."

In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.

Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, India Rose Hemsworth, and Wesley Holloway all make their Avengers franchise debuts.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, along with X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, plus Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.

Directed by the Russo Brothers, Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18.

Isn’t a little late for casting new roles?

@GenD - She’s was likely already part of the cast and filmed her scenes. The news was just revealed now though

Let make this easy. Raise your hand if you're NOT in Avengers: Doomsday ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@grendelthing - I had a role in the background, but it was cut as I kept waving at the camera while yelling "Hi, Mom and Dad!".

I called it artistic license by improvising, but the studio called it a "fireable offense", so guess who won "that" argument!

I'll be honest, I thought she was Carey Mulligan this whole time.

Cool!!.

I have only seen Sandra Hüller in Project Hail Mary and she was great in that so to have her in Doomsday , even if it is a cameo is a welcome addition to the film imo.

I don’t think she’s Doom’s mother or one of the Latverian Witches but likely Doom’s deceased wife (possibly Valeria Von Frazen) that we see in flashbacks.

By age and prestige it’s a no brainer she’s playing doom’s wife who died, probably has 2 scenes of flashback.
Would be extremely hilarious if they had Paltrow playing that role but whatever
