I can't believe the filmakers went along with his dead bird hat idea. He looks goddamned ridiculous.

^^ Yes, if he is sporting the bird and war paint more often than not, it will be sad indeed.

lol i can't believe you guys. that bird is legit.

it's johnny depp playing a native american. it's ridiculous on it's own. why single out the bird? which is the best part about all of this.

Johnny Depp is pay native American. So it not like they cast Chris Pine in the role.

@Nordberg... How do you know it was HIS idea? More likely the costume designers & director's ideas.

@DocDrop

Depp explained the origin of Tonto's look in an interview. He got the idea from a portrait painting that depicts an Indian with a crow in flight over his head:

Nordberg@ Yes, the idea comes from a very well-known Native American painting of a Crow Indian. It doesn't mean that is what they wore and how they looked on a daily basis. That is what I am more concerned with. I don't mind a few "battle" scenes where he puts on the face paint and bird, but more than that will be a deal breaker for me.

Agree with above.....kind of looks like Capt. Jack with a crow on his head.

I find it strange that while there seems to be a surplus of shots of Depp as Tonto, there seem to be almost none of Hammer as ol' Kemo Sabe. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

@Ranger

That isn't what they wore. In the painting, it *looks* like the bird is on the guy's head when it is in fact in flight behind his head. Making the bird into a headdress is all Depp.
