The spectre of a classic Bond villain loomed large following curious remarks made by Bond 23 screenwriter John Logan at a BAFTA Screenwriters lecture Tuesday. /Film points out this article at WhatCulture! that said:

"Rather interestingly, during the talk last night Logan was reminded by an audience member of a quote that he said some ten years ago that, in his opinion, 'Bond should always fight Blofeld'. When pressed on this he gave a wry smile and said 'Bond should always fight Blofeld'."

Yes, supervillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) previously played by the likes of Donald Pleasence, Telly Savalas, Charles Gray and Max Von Sydow.

Blofeld has been rumored as returning for Bond 23 for awhile, with actors such as Michael Sheen and Anthony Hopkins linked with the role. But with Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes reportedly set for Bond 23, could one of them be the new Blofeld? We shall see.

i wouldnt mind seeing Blofeld, but i dont think he would fit into these new bond movies.

Honestly I thought I was the only one that wanted to see Craigs Bond go against Blofield.

I'm sure if they did a Blofield it would be a pretty thorough revision of the character, especially after Dr. Evil.

I completely disagree with the editor here, Blofeld would fit perfectly in this rebooted franchise. The reason why Quantum was such a scary idea is because these terrorists don't wear turbans and run around in the middle east...these are extremists with huge bank accounts and they looks like the majority population, and until recently Bond didn't even know that this organization existed. Bringing the 60's Bond feel with the one super villain who's incredibly wealthy and intelligent would fit perfectly into a franchise that has normal looking terrorists that don't play to current stereotypes...

And to Lucaxmen, I completely agree. Fiennes would be perfect for Blofeld...I'm also reminded of Largo (Blofeld's #2) when looking at Bardem, slip an eyepatch on him and they might have something there...

Javier Bardeem could make a very cool Blofeld. I'd like to see Ralph Fiennes in a Non-villan role after Harry Potter.

As long as he heads SPECTRE and is bald and a manipulative bastard that can get away and show up in future installments...then I'm all for it (as long as they write him and cast him to go along with it). I'd love to see Blofeld back with his underlings being the primary villain of each movie similar to how Largo was in Thunderball.

whoever plays him, needs to be able to hold their own against bond.

I agree that Blofeld would indeed fit in, just as Joker was re-imagined to an extent to fit into the "nolanverse" blofeld could be protrayed in a more modern and relevant way than his previous incarnations on film.

also, grayfox117, while we might be in the minority, since QoS I've loved the idea of having Jaws re-imagined for craig, always imagined he'd be an un-named hired goon who bond "dispaches" early in the film leaving him with scars around the jaw/mouth and artifical teeth when he returns later on. I see though that this is prob too far fetched for it to really happen in the current run.
