Frank (Rainn Wilson) is an average guy who transforms himself into superhero The Crimson Bolt after his wife Sarah (Liv Tyler) hooks up with a smooth-talking drug dealer, Jacques (Kevin Bacon). What Frank lacks in superpowers, he makes up for with a trusty wrench in his one-man war on crime. But every superhero needs a sidekick. Enter Libby (Ellen Page), a cute psychopath working at the local comic book store. Transforming into “Boltie”, Libby teams up with Frank to take Jacques down. From the surprising imagination of writer-director James Gunn (Slither) comes Bolt and Boltie, a crazed crime fighting duo for the XBox generation. They’re here to save the day, or at least to beat you up.

Super hits the small screen April 1st on IFC

This movie is getting compared to Kick Ass unfairly.
If anything Kick Ass was still pretty far removed from "real life superhero" shtick, case in point... Big Daddy and Hitgirl.

This is more "real" than Kick Ass imo and approaches the idea of the amateur superhero from a totally different slant, despite it's outward pretensions of satire, Kick Ass still took itself pretty seriously both in comic book and movie format.

This seems much more irreverent to the superhero genre and has a much more lo fi vibe (ie: less money) than Kick Ass, I bet it will be the better movie.

...and honestly, can nobody make a movie about real life super hero wannabes without people calling it a kick ass ripoff?
You haven't even seen it yet!

Hey is Robocop is a ripoff of Terminator?
Because y'know they both feature robots combined with living tissue who use guns! >.>

@Maven - well put dude, couldn't have said it better myself.

To be honest i didn't think Kick-Ass was all that good, i liked the comic book but the movie just seemed kinda stupid and not in a good way. i for one preferred Defendor and Special, but hey thats just me. i'm looking forward to Super, seems like it could be good. for anyone who hasn't seen Defendor or Special i'll post the trailers below.

Defendor:

Special:

It's playing on the second night at the HIFF next month, but i'm still debating on whether i should see it or not.
The "cutting in line" scene was funny as hell though....
