Stephen Fry Cast As Mycroft In Sherlock Holmes 2!

The actor told Five Live's Danny Baker that he has been cast opposite Robert Downey Jr as the older brother of the Baker Street detective, "I'm playing Mycroft in the sequel to the Sherlock Holmes film Guy Ritchie directed with Robert Downey Jr."



Fry noted that he is looking forward to the part, although he admitted that he more enjoys taking on a leading role, as he did in 1997 biopic Wilde :"That sort of part Sherlock Holmes is fun, but just once in a while to play a genuine all-round sort of lead figure with complexity and tragedy and wit and all the sort of things that Oscar Wilde had was a once-in-a-lifeftime thrill."

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will be back as Holmes and Watson, while Rachel McAdams will reprise her role as Irene Adler. Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) will make her English-language debut as the sequel’s female lead, rumoured to be a French Gypsy

Sherlock Holmes 2 is due to film this year for a December 16, 2011 release!

Stephen Fry and Jude Law were in a film about Oscar Wilde.... you ought to check it out. So, I can kind of see him as Mycroft. Don't forget that Fry also was Hugh Laurie's comedy partner. Check some of their stuff out...very funny. Fry was also in V for Vendetta. Great actor, playwrite and humorist.

Lucaxmen: Thanks bud - this is indeed an awesome piece of casting! :) I loved the first movie and cannot wait for this one. (yet another reason that 2011 will be an amazing year for movies) They're starting filming on The Avengers in January or February aren't they? If so, I'm guessing that they'll have filmed a good portion of this movie by then and Marvel could always alter things so that Downey Jr starts a little later than everyone else...I doubt that it'll end up being too much of a problem though!

WHAT A PERFECT CAST!

Fry phisically resembles Mycroft, and he's also a great actor (Well I see him most in V for Vendetta).

This is how casting should be!

@Josh Avengers starts filming in March, so it's even more likely they'll have wrapped up filming by then :)
