While some fans may never quite get on-board with Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher, the author of the books, Lee Child, seems like he's more than happy with Cruise's take on the role.

Speaking with People Magazine & Entertainment Weekly, Child expressed his excitement at getting to see his 2013 novel Never Go Back adapted for film and praised Cruise's complete command over the role. He was also quite enthusiastic about seeing the dynamic between Cruise and two of his co-stars: Cobie Smulders, who plays fellow badass Susan Turner, and Danika Yarosh, who plays a mysterious teenager who may or may not be Reacher's daughter. “Instead of being a lone wolf, it becomes a three-hander. The three of them have got to work together to get out of the mess. And they are unfamiliar with taking orders. They’re all alpha characters used to being their own boss.

Child, having made a quick cameo in the original Jack Reacher, will also make an appearance in the upcoming film. This time, he'll appear in a scene where Cruise's Reacher is utilizing a phony ID to get through airport security. Child will be the one scanning the ID and in the process, become suspicious of Reacher's identity & intentions. “A theme is developing, I’m always in uniform, and I’m always somewhat suspicious of what is going on with Cruise.” He goes on to further detail working with Cruise as well as the scene in question: “He’s a very smart guy who’s very, very expert at storytelling. He wanted that scene on a whole number of levels. I’m kind of judging him at that moment. It is, in a way, very respectful of the fact that I wrote this character, and now he has received the baton, playing the character in the movie. This is the author saying to the actor: Go for it. Enjoy your trip!

One of the most strangest casting decisions but if the author is happy than what can anyone say. Need to check out another Jack Reacher book but do find them a bit boring sometimes
