Top Gun is a classic 1986 film which many hold true to their heart. It's filled with exciting navy plane action and a story with a golden touch of the decade it came in. What is surprising however is that there hasn't been a sequel made to it yet considering many films with this much of a popular fanbase already have a never ending franchise! But that is about to change as Tom Cruise himself confirmed the sequel is definitely happening and it may start filming as early as next year!
Tron Legacy Director Joseph Kosinski is the current frontrunner to direct the sequel taking over from the late Tony Scott. Kosinski has also previously directed Tom Cruise in the highly underrated 2013 action film Oblivion. Kosinski is an excellent director when it comes to visuals and style so this is definitely the perfect match for a Top Gun sequel. Justin Marks is the only screenwriter attached to the film as of now who also wrote the highly acclaimed video game adaptation Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and recently the 2016 Jungle Book film directed by Jon Favreau.
Tom Cruise is currently the only cast member as of now on board to return but former Batman star Val Kilmer has expressed previously expressed interest in returning to his role.
