The original movie was about two soldiers in Vietnam that kill each other. Van Damme plays the good soldier, while Lundgren plays the insane one that likes to chop off ears from his victims. Van Damme puts a stop to him, but sacrifices his own life.
Their bodies are recovered by the government and they are used in a secret Army experiment that brings them back to life decades later. Part of the process for reanimating them involves cryogenics, computer implants, and physical alterations to make them even stronger. A whole team of ex-dead soldiers are put together and are considered perfect soldiers since all they do is take orders. Or so they thought, til one day Van Damme is put in a situation in which memories of Vietnam come bubbling and he begins to regain his humanity. The problem is that Lundgren's character also regains his memories, and reclaims his insane ways and the two duke it out.
Damian Kindler (Stargate, Sanctuary) is writing the show, which will be produced by FremantleMedia North America, the U.S. arm of the London-based TV producer. Allen Shapiro and Craig Baumgarten, who produced the original movie, will be executive producers. Shapiro is currently chairman of TV Guide Network and was a founder of Mosaic Media Group, while Baumgarten’s movie credits include Hook and Shattered Glass. Baumgarten has a long track record as a studio executive including stints at Paramount, Columbia, Fox and Lorimar.
