LIGHTYEAR Star Chris Evans Shares Thoughts On Anthony Mackie Wielding The Shield As New Captain America

Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson became the new Captain America in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Lightyear star Chris Evans has now shared his thoughts on passing the mantle to his Avengers co-star.

In Avengers: Endgame, Captain America embarked on one final mission to save the world and helped restore half of all life in the universe along the way. With that, Steve Rogers earned his happy ending, and after returning the Infinity Stones to their rightful place in time, he reunited with Peggy Carter in World War II.

When Steve returned to the present day, it was as an old man, and he passed his shield (and the Captain America mantle) to Sam Wilson.

Sam's story played out in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe now has a new Captain America. A movie featuring the former Falcon in his new role is currently in the works, but Steve's fate remains unclear. Marvel Studios has hinted that he might have passed away, but there are still rumblings that Chris Evans might soon reprise the role.

During a recent interview to promote Lightyear, Evans broke his silence on Anthony Mackie taking over as the Star Spangled Avenger. "No one better to do it. I mean, he honestly does it justice. I’m so proud of him," the actor enthused. "I can’t wait to see what they do in the future with it, but if there’s any tear shed, it’s just for the sweet memories I had."

Even if Evans doesn't return as the elderly Steve, we'd be shocked if he doesn't suit up for the Secret Wars movie that Joe and Anthony Russo are rumoured to be working on.
