Chris Evans Makes Startling Captain America: Civil War Admission - And #TeamCap Supporters Are Shocked

Avengers: Doomsday star Chris Evans has made a startling admission about his allegiances between #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan, and it may forever change how you view Captain America: Civil War.

By JoshWilding - Sep 10, 2026 09:09 AM EST

Captain America: Civil War may seem positively small compared to blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but in 2016, it was arguably the biggest MCU movie to date.

Similar to when the comic book it shares a name with launched a decade earlier, people picked a side. Some declared for #TeamCap and others firmly supported #TeamIronMan. That continued when the movie was released, and for the really passionate fans out there, neither Captain America nor Iron Man's reputations have fully recovered after their actions.

Ultimately, the clash between the heroes had game-changing consequences for the wider MCU, while the movie itself introduced us to Black Panther and, unbelievably, Spider-Man.

In the latest episode of the Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday Official Podcast, Iman Vellani and Frank Alvarez discuss Captain America: Civil War and hear from Chris Evans on who he personally supports.

While his comments are brief, he shocked fans with his admission.

"You know, as the character, I stand by Team Cap's position," the Avengers: Doomsday star began. "Me personally, you know, I might be Team Iron Man. I know that's probably controversial to say."

In Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers are divided over the Sokovia Accords, a proposed agreement that would place the team under government oversight. Team Iron Man, led by Tony Stark, supports the Accords. Haunted by the destruction caused by Ultron and believing the Avengers need accountability, Tony argues that they cannot continue operating without supervision.

Team Cap, led by Steve Rogers, opposes the agreement. Steve believes governments cannot always be trusted to make the right decision and fears the Avengers could be prevented from helping people when they are needed most. His personal loyalty to Bucky Barnes also becomes a major factor after his old friend is blamed for a terrorist attack.

Ultimately, the conflict is as much about accountability versus freedom as it is about Bucky. Evans choosing Iron Man's side is understandable, but #TeamCap die-hards might be a little hurt!

You can check out the full Avengers: Doomsday Official Podcast below.

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) must pick a side.

@bobevanz - I can’t imagine how exhausting it must be to have politics bleed into every single aspect of your life. Holy shit you must be tired.

@bobevanz - Agreed! Plus, only congress can pass such a measure. It will also add a trillion dollars to our already 40 trillion dollar deficit. And finally, this would make inflation even worst!

@bobevanz - he didn’t ’promise’ checks. Trump says things as He’s thinking them in real time (arguably not a good trait in a leader). Sometimes they happen, sometimes they don’t

The airport scene is one of the coolest scenes in the MCU, and the premise and build up and introduction of some new characters was just stellar, but the ending of that movie is so lame.
TheOtherOn
TheOtherOn - 9/10/2026, 11:01 PM
@SummersEssex - To each their own I guess... 🤷‍♂️

To me, if you use an ounce of your mind for just ONE SECOND, that scene breaks down right from the beginning being the dumbest idiotic "laser tag" game ever played.. 🤦‍♂️

Think for ONE SECOND what all those characters CAN do, their abilities and then from the very first frame you see them walking/running/flying/teleporting ALL AT SAME PACE together. And it only gets worse from there, if you really believe they were suppose to be "fighting" for real.

The ending only CONFIRMS that, when one of them is actually hit for real... You know AFTER all of them were throwing bullets, missiles, lasers, kicks, punches, various objects at each others? Suddenly everyone gets emotional and STOP and become apologetic 🥺 😭

It really was an extremely bad "laser tag competition" all along, until someone got hit for real. 🥱😴

I’m still team Cap. Sorry but Tony was wrong for trying to get the others to share his own guilt- he caused all of that with Bruce.

This really should have been an Avengers movie.

From the general public’s point of view who want to watch just the Avengers movies over a weekend the jump from Age of Ultron to Infinity War, is quite the jump. With many people wondering about the split and why certain characters aren’t talking to each other.

I'm sorry, who? Who is it exactly that LOVED Age of Ultron so much that they went to see Infinity War, but couldn't be bothered to see any of the interstitial films?

It all comes down to who represents each side.

Steve could be blindly trusted to be anti-government, because he's proven his moral compass time and time again. Tony on the other hand could not be trusted even with the entire UN's approval.

Still goated, btw. CW>TWS.

@TemporarilyHere - if this makes any sense.... TWS is the Better movie... whereas CW is the better Comicbook movie... idk how to explain but ive always seen it that way.... Regardless. the Russos f*cking knocked it out of the park with those 2 movies

@MotherGooseUPus -

I don't disagree with that, but I feel like it contributes to why I personally find CW to be the better of the two.

TWS, despite its quality, still feels like a movie that thinks it's burdened by the CBM genre, whereas CW embraces it more eagerly, with their IW going full in on it immediately after.
MotherGooseUPus
MotherGooseUPus - 9/10/2026, 2:45 PM
@TemporarilyHere - yep, i would agree with your statement... i love TWS but almost wished it would embrace being a CBM alittle more... but really its one of my top 5 fav CBM of all time

@hainesy - So you're one of those people that ranted against wearing masks for public protection during covid, but you're cool with ICE and Proud Boys wearing masks as they do their fascism.

Got it.
Grimfoe
Grimfoe - 9/10/2026, 1:38 PM
@Pathogen - what an incredibly stupid comment. The masks during COVID didn't work. Trying to stop a virus with a mask is like trying to stop a thrown baseball with an open garage door. The masks used by ICE work pretty well. They keep you and your violent leftist friends from killing law enforcement officers. And don't even give me any crap about how that's not necessary. There are fools all over doxxing and attacking law enforcement. Which reminds me, you all on the left need to look up the definition of fascism. It doesn't come from the right. We're small government. It comes from lefty psychos that think it's okay to kill people you don't agree with. Like Charlie Kirk, for example. You people reprehensible. You would do well, when you're throwing labels like fascist and Nazi to remember the socialism part of the National Socialist Party that was run by Hitler. Pick up a book for Christ's sake. Oh, and the Proud Boys suck, btw.
RolandD
RolandD - 9/10/2026, 2:08 PM
@Grimfoe - The only thing socialist about the Nazi’s is that they put the word in their name as a ploy to lure people from actual socialist and communist parties. You are evidence of how well that fooled some people
Grimfoe
Grimfoe - 9/10/2026, 3:14 PM
@RolandD - yeah, that’s not true. They used their social programs to get more and more of the populace on their side to secure power. The history is pretty clear. Seizing wealth and property from the Jews and distributing it through social programs. Socialism was integral to their rise to power.
RolandD
RolandD - 9/10/2026, 3:34 PM
@Grimfoe - There were dom socialists involved in the very early days of the party but Hitler eliminated the few left and socialists, got rid of the labor unions, got rid of all opposing parties establishing totalitarian control demanding complete obedience and subservience to him , in other words, fascism, nothing left or progressive about it.

If it's any consolation to you, that short anniversary wish is nothing compared to the week-long Dionysian orgy of debauchery and decadence I'm about to indulge into, once he finally kicks the long overdue proverbial bucket.

Should I save you a spot?
RolandD
RolandD - 9/10/2026, 6:05 PM
@Grimfoe - Hitler was never a socialist. You shouldn’t get your talking points from Fox News. Speaking of the right wing /Nazi connection, Trump is well known for keeping a copy of My New Order, a collection of Hitler’s speeches on his night stand.
Grimfoe
Grimfoe - 9/10/2026, 6:35 PM
@RolandD - again, I think you may be missing the point. I'm not taking talking points from anywhere. I'm old enough we actually had to study history. Hitler wasn't a socialist, most dictators that use socialism to rise to power aren't. That's the whole point. Socialism, like any government expansion, doesn't work. Centralized power always ends in oppression. Every time.

Hell, Marx wrote about it. You can't just read the bits and pieces thrown about for consumption. Give up the Cliff Notes and read the actual material. It's been many years since I have, but the meanings stick with you.

It's also worth mentioning the right wing in Europe and the right wing in America are completely different. One is trying to preserve monarchy and centralized power while the other is trying to preserve small government. (or at least it should be, there is no right wing in the US anymore). While the right wing is Europe may be trying to preserve homogeny in their people, the US is not. Europe is much more racist than the US, by and large.
